My 12U DD played at OSP last weekend and we had a great time. You will have to pay $5.00 all three days so remember to use the coupon at he concession stand for a free drink and it will really only be $3.00. Plenty of parking and McD's and Sheetz are only 2 minutes away. The fields are beautiful and field 8 has 200' fences but even the larger fields weren't a big problem. The place isn't finished yet but I had no problems during the three days we were there. So relax you'll have a great time. My wife came for DD's championship game and only had to pay $3.00. I guess she looked like a baseball mom.;&

The OSP usually charges $3.00 a day. I guess that Madness is getting an additional $2.00 a head, not a big deal unless your bringing the whole family.

We receive $0.00 for any gate fee. We have no choice in the price they are charging.

I think all of the teams should have been notified of this when the entry was received. What happens when a parent of a 10U and a 12U wants to watch some of both games - they are getting charged with the 10U team at Palmer fields and being charged to enter at OSP also. I don't think this is fair to penalize a parent for having two different girls playing - it's hard enough to watch both girls at one park let alone at two different parks. Let's hear your answer to this!

I recommend reading back through the post on here. This was a last minute because of the injuction of not being able to light a number of the fields due to a lawsuit. We regret that they girls are on two different locations, but if fields have no lighting allowed due to the lawsuit, we cannot play a game on that field, therefore the need to use Palmer Park.

We cannot notify when entry is received if this just occured due to issues outside of our realm of control.

Thank you for sharing your insight. We feel the same way. Our first tournament there was even less done than now and it went well. We provided feedback to the managment of issues that could help make it smoother and hopefully we will see those in place. I also heard the concession food was actually pretty good.

I don't see how anyone could say that the larger fields were no problem ? I seen a LOT of sure doubles turn into homeruns because of 300 or 365 foot fences . One field with a 200 foot fence and NO temp. fences . Great place for a fastpitch tourney !!!!!!!

I guess OSP should not book more than one tournament per weekend in the future - or I'm sure no one will want to enter into their tournament because of the problems and the use of the additional park - due to their lack of planning. This past weekend was horrible with a men's tournament coming in later in the evening and a boys tournament on Saturday - which were rude when they found out the girls tournament was running late. I guess next year when we are planning our budget - this won't be one of the tournaments that will be top on our list....!!!!!!!!!!

Just emailed the park director about entry fees for those of us who have a friday night game scheduled. I asked him if the Friday entry would be waived or if we should have our parents save wrist bands for the next day. His answer, "It is $5.00 per person per day. Sorry -Tony".

Sorry???? I really don't feel the sincerity there.

Bend over folks!

So everywhere you play has fences? We didn't find it to be a big deal.

I find it rather funny how you can make this comment when you are assuming the park is shared this weekend. We have the park Saturday 100% and as our fields come open on Sunday through typical bracket play, yes men's slow pitch will come in and play some games. We do not need all 8 fields in the late afternoon. But to say you won't come back to a tournament that hasn't even taken place is an interesting statement. I hope you will change your mind once you see how we run things at the actual tournament.

Laser Nation, you were at our first tournament and were pleased with how things ran, let's hear from you. . .

The teams that were waiting for the 12U championship to end were coed and they were not rude at all. I can't believe all the negative comments about the park.

AND NO I'M NOT WITH THE MADNESS

I really hope you do prove me wrong. I'm glad that this weekend there won't be other tournaments going on. I guess you shouldn't have accepted so many teams to this tournament. I guess the fact that I have to travel from one complex to another really ticks me off. This means I will have to sacrafice watching some games to watch others - atleast when it was all at one complex I could roam from one field to another and in some instances watch both games at once. I really don't have a problem paying the gate fee - that comes with softball and we should all accept it but asking teams to pay extra because they have to be put at another complex (a public complex) is wrong.

Warren-

Don't have a problem with paying gate fees. Have a big problem when in affect they charge us twice. We didn't make special requests not to play Friday night games in this tournament. The right thing to do is not charge those who have to come and play one game Friday, or comp them on Saturday when they come back to play by presenting Friday nights wristband. This is directed at OSP for their greed. It is no way intended to be directed at the Madness Org. I'm sure they are learning all about the "fine print or things they forgot to ask" as related to OSP.
As a coach, I don't pay to get in, but, I have parents and grandparents that this affects. People are struggling a little bit out there because of the economy (if OSP hasn't noticed).

Unfortunately for the Madness, they will get some backlash for some things out of their control.

As the tournament director for the Madness ASA Showcase I am frankly shocked at the negative feedback for a tournament that has yet to take place. I have been around softball for many years and have had three girls that have played. Valley Extreme, Burton Maple Leaf, etc. run tournaments at different sites that are quite a bit further than the 5 minutes from OSP to Palmer Field. As far as gate fees, when don't you have to pay a fee to enter a tournament? We do NOT have control of gate or concessions at OSP, and do not profit from either. In addition, anyone that has multiple teams playing will not be charged at Palmer.

We are a top-notch organization that intends to run an excellent tournament. If your teams choose not to enter next year, that is at your discretion. I have turned away 10 teams within the last 2 weeks that have wanted to enter our tournament. Next year I hope that they choose to play in our tournament and the negative parents can go play somewhere else.

I didn't think you were getting concessions. That extra $2 dollars paid at the gate with the intent of getting a $2 discount at the concession stand is definitely something that I have never seen before. It's basically just squeezing more money out of people.

I know you have more important things to worry about so maybe someone from the park can answer this. Why were they not charging the boys tournament the additional $2.00? It just seems odd. I'm funny about this sort of thing - if we were playing, I can guarantee you that I would spend only my 'free' $2 at the concession stand on principle alone.

It's also odd that they expect you to make up for their lost gate fees due to their issue with the lights. Actually, really odd.

It does have an effect on the game and I don't like playing with 300' fences, but it should not be a make or break factor as to whether you will play in the tournament. Some of our favorite tournaments have used these types of fields. We actually played with them last weekend and it hurt us more than the other teams we were playing. But the biggest reason for that was our outfielders took poor angles at the ball and made it worse than it needed to be. We learned that we have some work to do in that area and that is good.

Good luck with your tournament. I know hard they are to run and I hope everything goes well for you.

We have never played at either place, I just wanted to know for mapping purposes. Was not trying to be negative - Grandparents will be picking dd (10u) up on Sunday and I would like to give them directions to the correct place be it OSP or Palmer field.
