Palmer Fields has no gate fee. Everybody can watch for free, except they are charging the 10U teams for playing there. About 5.00 for each DD. Then they will charge us another 5.00 to watch games at OSP on the same day. Double gate fees for some.

Boy I hope not as many of our parents have young and older girls playing, I do as well and have to help coach the older team on top of it.

Wow, This tournament hasn't even started and is getting bashed, give it a chance, let the tournament take place first. I personaly like my schedule for Saturday, I don't care to much for Sunday but hey, this is travel ball, "it is what it is". As for the gate fee, ain't no different than Akron charging $5.00 a head, I don't think it's right but you can't blame Maddness for it, blame the park. As a tournament director myself, it's not the easiest to schedule with a high number of teams and then someone throws a fork in your plans about the lighting, they made the changes they need too and all the teams still get to play. Lets get this tournament in before we give it negative feed back you mind find it to be, okay!

I am in a similiar situation. Our team was there last weekend and the facility will be awesome once it is done. But it is not completed yet. the gate fees really didn't bother my team nor does this weekends fees either. The only thing that people want to know is why if we are playing at a different field why do we need to pay the fee. I understand its only fair but we are not the ones that moved us. My team was one of the first to sign up way back when snow was on the ground, we were told that this is a new complex that will be ready for the season. We were excited to play in the area because of previously run tournaments. The prices for the concession and gate fees have everyone upset. I am not upset as a Coach but I feel that the new parents to my softball team are somewhat surprised and I don't want them to have negativity towards the OSP going into next year. I like the fact of a new place for girls to play but it never fails once you build a new park the baseball teams are close behind following. As far as men's go they can play on any field, anytime, anywhere and I don't think they would mind. Like I said the park will be a very nice place to play next year, right now is too soon. The only difference in this weekend and last is that the grandparents and aunts and uncles will not be there this weekend due to the expenses of last weekend. We are booked here for another also and this could be a downer for my Parents when you add up the fees. We are not arguing the fees I just wanna play ball and make the experience fun for the whole family especially the girls. We are looking forward to playing in your tourney and hope this all gets sorted out. By telling us to stay home if we don't like it....If we would have known it was going to be like this maybe we would have went somewhere else, not stay home..And Mr.Wolffe do you or have you had any of your teams here?? Just wondering by your support you act like you have. Supporting the Maddness is fine but to support their situation is wrong. We know everyone charges most of the time in reasonable situations, this for the 10's is not. Im not trying to tick anyone off but when people talk just to be heard...mmmm to much time on your hands.

So why is it fair for everyone to have to pay at OSP and not at Palmer? Don't you think those parents with children playing only at OSP might be a little upset if you didn't have to pay and they do? The fee is less than $2 per person.

However, but what bothers me the most about your statement is that you feel we did this out of a desire to have two locations vs. a necessity. Without being able to play under the lights, we are looking a number of time slots. Would you have us cancel out on teams that desire to play or would you prefer us to do what we have. Find a Park CLOSE to the OSP site and get the games in? Palmer has running water, restrooms, and concessions. You can even bring your coolers into Palmer which cannot be done at OSP.

The teams are playing their bracket play at OSP on Sunday so they younger players can experience the new facility. Why? Because we want to make sure everyone has the opportunity.

It's simple; we are doing our best to take a situation that is out of our realm of control and ensure everyone is provided the opportunity to play. We are proud of the hard work, time and effort we have put into making this a tournament many people will come back to for the level of talent it brings.

I find it very depressing to see how many people are willing to blast us on this tournament when it has yet to be played. To condemn without looking at the effort placed into taking a situation that occurred merely days ago creating a workable solution and making it sound like we knew this was happening all along. Very interesting that we are supposed to have the foresight that the drive-in movie theater would sue because of the lighting of the fields encroaching on their property. . . I guess we are supposed to have omnipotent power.

We will keep smiling and put on the best Showcase possible and invite everyone to join in a good time!

I have the same problem. I have to pay 5.00 to watch DD play at OSP, and pay 4.00 to watch other DD play at Palmer field. 9 dollars for one day doesn't sound fair to me.
Parents from teams playing at Palmer Fields should be admitted free to OSP or at least at a reduced rate.
Games on Friday night should be at a reduced rate also Mr. Wolff.

Palmer fee when broken down is not $4 per player. 12 man roster equates to less than $2 per player w/ two parents. Your team can bring as many people as they want to watch for that fee, not $4 a piece and not the $5 at OSP per person over the age of 12.

In one of the earlier posts it's stated that we will not be double charged. However, I think that is incorrect. We (our 10u team) were informed that we need to pay a $50 fee. OK. But I have 3 daughters in this tourney (10u, 14u and 16u playing at 18u) all with same organization. So, I will have to pitch in and pay for the $50 fee and then I will be charged again at OSP. (that's being charged twice) As far as the $5 gate fee itself I feel that's a little crazy. Who cares about the $2 coupon for the concession stand where a small/reg. size bottle of water is 2 bucks. We can go to wal-mart and buy a case for 3.97. I feel sorry for teams who have to play on Friday, triple whammy. Just my "2 cents" or should I say 5 bucks

The fee was reduced to $30 not $50 as you are quoting.

My fellow Camp Chair Commando's;

Here's the latest wrinkle: "Individual coolers will be allowed at Palmer field, but not at Ohio Sports Park" (From the website)

So are you saying you would like for us to not allow coolers at Palmer fields? OSP has no ownership in the private park and therefore we, the Madness will allow the coolers in at Palmer. Again, we cannot control OSP's rules and regulations.

It's pretty amazing people can judge others without knowing them or all the circumstances. Feisty's got nothing to do with the park policies, that's been made clear throughout this thread. Truly, if your daughter will be so upset by playing in this tourny (which hasn't even happened yet), then stay home.

Man, some people complain about everything. How about a little understanding? At least they are trying to communicate what's going on. I've experienced other tournaments who cared a lot less about the participants than this organization.

This is a first year organization at a first year complex. There were bound to be some problems, yet your team still chose to sign up for it. Make the most of it instead of predetermining it will be such a disaster.

Well said.

Thank you!

Feistymom, We just received the revised schedule and I want to personally thank you for making this experience horrible for my daughter and our family. I just want your organization and OSP to know this. I hope that you will rethink all your schedules long before the next tournament you plan on hosting at this park!!!! This is sure not giving your tournament a positive outlook for future tournaments.

You are welcome to come and take a shot at pleasing everyone that has a specific request, inability to play at certain times due to ACT/SAT testing, and a variety of other request. Also, there was a number of individuals working on this schedule, not just me.

I have always prided myself on being very patient and understanding, but until you have walked in the shoes that we currently in, don't judge.

I was at Toledo Pre-Season Classic last weekend and had to play 5 pm and 8 pm Friday and turn around and come back at 8 am Saturday morning. I then did not play again until 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm. I did not complain one iota about my schedule. Why, because I realize the difficulty there is to pleasing everyone and it is simply not possible.

You shouln't be so feisty. Somebody just dropped the fee to thirty dollars at 8:12pm today. Who is running this tournament Madness or OSP?

I guess we should all wait until after the tournament to voice our concerns about gate fees, water coolers, and whatever else that can be answered before the tournament starts. People aren't bashing the tournament. Some people are just letting us know what to expect when we show up this weekend. Hopefully things will be different then last weekend. Like cleaned out porta johns.

If it weren't for all the complaining would they have dropped the gate fee from $50 to $30? I don't think so;&

It was not dropped, it was a miss print by me and my wonderful typing skills. My bad and I take that on 100%. The proof can be found on our website by looking at the document. You can see where I put $30 in one spot and $50 in another.

Ohio Sports Park is a privately owned facility. In order to keep up with the maintenance, make park improvements, and ultimately keep the park looking the same as it does today, there is an admission fee of $3.00 per person per day. This fee applies to everyone over the age of 12. All paid admissions will receive a token that is good for a 20 ounce beverage of your choice at our lounge or concession stand.
This is right from their website.

Madness All-Star Information:

This tournament is dedicated to the memory of Dana Care, an Ohio Emerald's player who lost her battle with cancer in December. On Sunday at 6:30 we would like everyone to observe a moment of silence. Dana's priest will then bless the memorial donated in her honor by the Ohio Emeralds and Madness Organizations. The all-star game will commence with the ceremonial first pitch being thrown by Mr. Care to Kara Radatz, the Emerald's catcher. We would like to invite everyone to stay and attend the all-star game which will be played by mvp's chosen during 16u and 18u pool play, and coached by collegiate softball players. This is an opportunity not only to watch great softball, but to remind all of us what the game is truly about - the girls.

The inscription on Dana's stone reads:

"This tree is a symbol of the strength and courage shown by Dana Care. Dana was a promising young catcher for Ohio Emerald's Fastpitch and St. Joseph Academy. Her battle with cancer inspired numerous fastpitch players and coaches throughout northeast Ohio. Now she is our angel, remembered for her competitive spirit both on and off the field."

I understand and commend you on finding other fields to play on. With what the city is doing to you your doing a fine job.. We played there last week and the tourney ran fine. I wasn't trying to slam you in anyway just give you a point of view that's all. This is the first I was told about running water or restrooms at Palmer. Sounds like a fine place to play. Having these accomodations may calm people down. So the price has been cut from 50 to 30 for a team that is playing Sat at Palmer?
