Not even close. Mark May went to Pitt during the Dan Marino days from 1977-1980, OSU did not play Pitt in any of those seasons. OSU did lay the wood to Pitt back to back years in 1995-96 in which the 1996 score was 72-0 also a game in which John Cooper got accused by Johnny Majors (Pitt coach at the time) of running the score up. At that point in his career, Mark May had been out of pro football a season or two.

BTN had a great piece during Michigan week on about how good that 1996 OSU team was. If Cooper doesn't try to sit on a 9-0 lead in the Michigan game, they would have went into the Rose Bowl as #1 v. #2 Arizona State. Cooper had so much depth in the running game that season, that OSU went to running the ball in the 4th quarter and still kept scoring hence Majors ripping him in the media for running it up.

Not busting anyone's chops but that argument that Ohio State blasted Pitt during Mark May's time there is just that, an URBAN myth. :)

What also fuels idiot Mark May is that OSU beat his Pitt team all 4 years he played there including a 70( something) to zero his senior year !!!! Go Bucks !!!

Maybe its because the Big 10 is one of the weakest conferences in college football, and I'm betting Alabama beats OSU by 21. A third string quarterback going up against a SEC defense in Alabama. Sounds like blowout potential to me. The bowl committee simply followed the money, OSU from Northeast/Midwest and the tv draw from this area, they will draw more fans than TCU or Baylor. Think about it, you have Alabama in the South East, Oregon in the Northwest, and Alabama towards the South also, they are covering all geographic regions and where they will draw fans.

Come on one of the weakest really ??

Just as an aside - Something I always point out to our friends from THE State Penn and all the other Big Football Schools -
PITT is a University that plays Basketball and Football not Vice versa -

Don't be haiting on the University For something Mark May said.

scriptPittBl.jpg

For the Record MAY played at PITT ‘77 ~’80 No OSU on the schedule any of those years.
PITT didn’t play THE Ohio State until '83 (they Beat PITT in the Fiesta Bowl 23-28, they also Beat PITT 10-7 in '85 and Lost to PITT 42-10 in '88)
OSU Dominated in the 4 games they played in the '90's winning by a combined score of 216-45 But beating PITT in the 90's was not a big feat (They had only one winning season that decade)

By the way - PITT Beat VIrginia Tech 21-16 - This year

The bowl season will prove how over rated the SEC is. No defense. Inept Offense. The ACC proved that 2 weeks ago.

I agree, the SEC is overrated this year. It seems like college football in general is without a conference powerhouse, but I still feel that the SEC is overall the strongest conference, albeit barely. They did lay an egg against the ACC during state rivalry week though. The most overrated conference is the Big Ten, and has been the past few years. Historically, the Big Ten is the best football conference. They were football monsters back in the day.

Probably the weakest of the big 5 or power 5 or whatever you want to call them.........

http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/93344/power-rankings-big-12-not-sec-is-no-1

That system puts the Big 12 at the top of the heap???! ... I'll go with OSU, MSU, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska vs. Baylor, TCU, KSU, Oklahoma and Texas any day! I'm going to stick with the "common sense" poll that puts the SEC at the top of the pack. After that, arguing which conference is better between the remainder is splitting hairs.... and don't forget that THE WORST team in the lowly Big 10 beat the SEC-East 1st place team (IU vs Mizzou).

My power 5 rankings:
1) SEC-- mostly the West. Yes they are pretty good top to bottom. Not great, certainly not unbeatable.
2) pac12-Oregon, AZ, AZ ST- pretty decent this year top to bottom
tied 3) Big 10- OSU, MSU good, Wisc OK. then some average, then some bad
tied 3) Big 12- Baylor, TCU good, KState OK, then some average, then some bad
5th) ACC- FSU albeit undefeated and deserves to be where they are are not scary, Georgia Tech- better than average. Everybody else average or bad.

It all came down to a shared championship and not playing a title game vs a whoopin for the ages on a big stage.

GO BUCKS!

Oh, Mark May is the worst thing on TV since Knots Landing.

.....and IU lost to Bowling Green so I guess Bowling Green is better than Mizzou. Ohio State lost to Va Tech who lost to East Carolina so I guess East Carolina is better than Ohio State and would destroy Wisconsin.

Lenski, you must not be a Buckeye fan at all and that's ok but are you serious? B1G overrated? If you watch tv or listen sports talk at all you would know the B1G is the most bashed conference in America. If anything I think the perception is starting to change a little and they are starting to garner some recognition. Not the whole conference but teams like OSU, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. Overrated..... not a chance.

... that's my point... one game means nothing, but you hear a lot of buzz on the talk shows that the Big 10 is weak because its best team lost to VT in a single game early in the season after losing Braxton. Don't understand that logic ... especially since no one really talks about the IU/Mizzou game or the fact that #3 TCU had almost lost to KU and could only muster a last minute win. The only time I hear someone bring up an individual loss or non-blowout game is in reference to the Buckeyes. Hope all the "overrated" BS continues to make OSU play with a chip on their shoulder through the playoff games! GO BUCKS!

There's a reason they're getting bashed......they are overrated! It's not the conferences fault....it's the people in the media living in the past. I don't have a problem with OSU or the Big Ten. I'm just a realist. I think the SEC is a bit overrated this year as well but top to bottom they are better than the Big Ten. OSU is moving in the right direction though and Meyer will end up with a perennial powerhouse as long as Meyer hangs around. Michigan State's okay but c'mon.....Wisconsin is a joke! The entire Big Ten West is a joke and even the ACC Coastal division is better.

My 5-7 Akron Zips beat Pitt 21-10 this year...lol

So following the logic it should be AKRON and not THE OSU in the play-Offs - Correct?

If Zips Beat the Panthers and The Panthers beat VT and VT Beat THE OSU -

Ergo: ZIPS > THE OSU = AKRON -VS - BAMA

Frankly - I miss the old days when we had the “Mythical National Champion” When we didn't have to pretend it was all a settled matter.

"If there are any Big Ten teams that shoot for a national championship, they're damn fools...You play to win the Big Ten championship, and if you win it and go to the Rose Bowl and win it, then you've had a great season. If they choose to vote you number one, then you're the national champion. But a national champion is a mythical national champion, and I think you guys ought to know that. It's mythical."

Ranking the power 5 conferences

1) Pac 12 (6-2)
2) SEC - thanks to the SEC East 5-0, SEC West 2-5 (7-5)
3) Big 10 (5-5)
4) ACC (4-7)
5) Big 12 (2-5)

Is there really any arguing the PAC 12 was the toughest conference this year. SEC West was overrated and the SEC East was underrated. Big 10 the top of the conference can play with anybody the bottom half needs to step it up. ACC did better than the Big 12. Weakest conference in 2015 the Big 12. And still the 2 weakest conferences had teams throttle teams in the SEC West.
