That wasn't me, thank goodness. :D

Hey Fury...how's your noggin'? We were on the 16u diamond when that one jetted over the backstop and dinged you from behind...I think that was you anyway!!!

Echoing what everyone else is saying, the SDS guys pulled off a good one. Excellent job gentlemen!

But, there was one umpire in the 10U that told a coach that his catcher must remain centered on the plate or he wouldn't start play. He created his own catcher's box instead of strike zone... New one for me, never heard that before

Is this a rule? News to me. Either way...blue would have been highly harrassed on this one...regardless of my ignorance...:lmao::cool:

Their needs to be a rating system for coaches to rate umpires and then a web site TD's can go to to see the ratings before they hire an ump. No way should an ignoramce like the one that told the catcher they must remain centered on the plate or the other ignoramce that told the coaches at pregame (pastime) that he would only call strikes from the waist to the knees. These nut cases change the dynamics of the game should be exiled from the game. Send them to Iraq to officiate s@ccer and see how long they last. I see a beheading in their future.

At the free SDS tourney, we had an umpire that said if there are ANY close plays anywhere in the field, it will be an automatic OUT. And sure enough, he called it that way. Don't worry, I won't say who it was this time. :D

His name should be Ignoramce. He/she should say any close plays that I can't tell one way or the other because of my position will be called out. The way he/she said it means a close play I feel was safe is going to be called out. One ump is a tough job for the ump so we have to give them some slack We need to jump on the TD's at paid tourneys that only schedule one ump like, well I don't want to mention any names but their initials begin with Pastime.

I certainly can't hold it against SDS for one ump, but if Pastime has one ump per field, at a paid tourney that has 2 berths per age group, I will not be a happy camper. If past complaints and recent history are any indicator, I think Marty will have learned from them and will provide a fun, safe tourney for all.

Expressway, Pastime, Kettering Capital City, Hebron and the Jubilee in Zanesville all charge admission. SDS has attended or will attend all of these tournaments. When our tournaments aren't "FREE" the cost is usually $200-$250, far below the costs of other tournaments.

The parks that you mention are worth the entry fees for the most part. Lefferson is not. It is a public park that is just good enough to host a free event (IMHO). If I not mistaken most of the others parks that you mentioned are community owned and they take the gate fees. Host organizations do not typically take the gate fees. This year we have played in 6 tournaments so far and only one of them has charged an entry fee. It is not the norm at all.

You have always had a negative taste in your mouth toward SDS, for that I'm sorry. I feel as if you have either been turned away by SDS or your DD plays for a competitor. I beg to differ and obviously so do alot of others about Lefferson. The park is beautiful with 4 diamonds. The only problem is the short backstops because Lefferson was a slow-pitch complex back in the day. SDS has played in 6 tournaments and 4 have charged.

If you ever play at Lefferson, look me up and I'll buy you a popcycle. You don't know Edamame do you?;&

Just there last weekend. They have a reasonable gate fee BUT they ALLOWED coolers and the concessions were reasonably priced. Only buck for a bottle of water. Hamburger were grilled right there, not micro'ed. Looked like everybody was having fun. :yahoo:

Les,

Don't know how you did it, but that was not my post you quoted. It was JabberJaw's. ;&

I agree with Musty, this was a fun tourney and other than the short backstops addressed above by SDS. Everything was great ! And good food at a good price ( except no walking tacos ! ) just threw that in there for my buddy Musty :lmao:

As far a gate fees, couldn't beat the price. Most of the places we play it is from 4.00 - 5.00 a day entry. I will glady pay 2.00 - 3.00 a day for the quality of play and surroundings anytime !

It was also nice to not have to walk 300 yards to the next field if you happened to be on a different diamond from one game to the next. Of course, all our games were on the same diamond, so there was no guessing there. But if we had to go from Field 1 to Field 2 to Field 3 to Field 4, we wouldn't have had to go far. I'd just address the backstops and RESTROOMS first, then worry about the dugouts. I didn't hear any complaints about the dugouts. Bathrooms maybe could be powerwashed and re-tooled a bit, but I know SDS will get to all that stuff - they've only had the place for less than 2 months, and they did the right thing by addressing the fields first, and then work your way out to the other amenities. Yeah, the food was cooked right there - I just happened to be by the concessions windown when a guy poked his head out and yelled, "Burgers and Dogs half off, get em' while you can!" So that took care of my lunch for the day. haha.

I agree Cincy, they are working in the right order. I would strongly suggest that if they are going to have any late fall tournaments in cold weather that they invest in heaters for those toilets ! A coach could get stuck there and miss a game once that stainless steel gets a little frosty. :lmao:

Back in the day when the City of Middletown was a viable community, AK Steel (formally Armco Steel) offered many types of stainless steel products. The toilets at Lefferson will last forever but in the cold, there may be a chance of being frozen the seat!:lmao: In one of the affluent neighborhoods in the city, there was a stainless steel swimming pool installed. Its really beautiful if you don't get blinded by the reflection!;&
