Softball World is RIDICULOUS with rules. It DEFNITELY in the past has not been the most friendly facility to visit. I'M HOPING things have changed. I believe there is a website of the particulars......

REGARDLESS - BEST OF LUCK to everyone - and safe travels to you all!

I am not up on any recent changes in NSA. In the past they have only required a team to play "A" if they met certain criteria. The main one being how far away players are from the teams base. Otherwise teams are free to choose whether to play A or B.

In defense of Softball World and others like Expressway Park in Milford.

Ohio law prohibits alcohol from being brought onto the premises of establishments that have a permit to serve alcohol. ?There are big fines and of course they could lose their permit. ?So, to protect themselves, owners of such facilities must implement procedures that lessen the possibility of ?this occurring. ?If someone gets caught bringing alcohol onto the premises (by law enforcement officers), then the owner is also held accountable. ?So we see no coolers, etc.

Do we like the rules?-not all the time. ?
Will we follow the rules?-if we want to play ball there we will.

Tyler,
I thought I had heard that if a team won 3 consecutive tournaments they had to go to A nationals but otherwise it was a choice the team could make. States is similar in that the team chooses I believe.

there were NO coolers in cinci years ago when I had kids on my team and my opponents passing out! ?It's not about the alcohol, it's about the concession $$$

Does anyone know when this tournament is supposed to be completed? With the number of teams, are they planning a Mondat finish?

Tig is right...it's about the money. Dave at the Thunderplex has no problem with coolers and I always seem to drop some cash for drinks or a dog with my cooler in my hand. Enough complaining on my part, I'm off to freeze some water....

From what I can tell (I could be wrong, I was once before), the games are going to be Sat., Sunday and Monday. Would be nice if it was like EVERY OTHER TOURNEY and played Fri., Sat. and Sunday. Monday should be devoted to gorging on BBQ and 1 adult beverage.

There was a beer truck at Tealtown during states last year, so I doubt it is about alcohol. ?Haven't been upstairs when we have played there, but does Softball World close the bar during youth tournaments?

In years past, NO - - beer sales were happening during the tournament.

Just ONE of the issues with the whole deal.

But as another poster stated - we don't like the rules, but we follow them if we want to play.

Re: NSA

Be prepared - it says on the website that coaches, players and spectators all pay an admission fee. ?This is the location I DREAD every summer. ?

TBolt mom-

If I remember right- the last state at SBWorld; Coach Tig got to have a beer while watching the older daughter break her hand- ouch!

Who knows what the rules are this year- I guess we'll just go with em

A no alcohol rule is not a problem. Greed (a strong word, but does anyone know a more "politically correct" one) is a BIG problem.

At two of our last four tourneys, girls were hit by heatstroke. Watching a girl go beet red and start to sway on the field is a very lasting impression. I do not want to repeat it.

Anyone can feel free to go through my cooler, which will be packed full of water and Gatorade. (You know what, I will even buy Gatorade on-site!)

But if bringing cold water on-site to keep our team hydrated is a problem, there are two solutions.

The facility is welcome to provide unlimited cold water to our team, including coaches. That will solve the problem from my perspective.

Otherwise, if the goal is to create a media event (i.e., girls passing out on the field because of the "only buy it here" policy), then let's make sure that the media is there to film the event. I will even pay for the camera crew to get into the facility!

Maybe bad publicity will do what sanity can't accomplish.

forecast calls for nice but not scorching days. It should be a great weekend.

Best of luck to all teams-
all ages

Play Hard!

georgerseifert, if we pre-plan, we can create a diversion so to draw attention elsewhere, then we might be able to sneak a whole group in past the guards. Is this place like the Hotel California? You can check-in, but you cannot check out?

I've been to other types of tournaments at this facility. You will NOT be able to sneak a cooler past. It's like the Gustapo. EVERYONE pays, even players to enter and you will pay through the nose for their concession. I've had this argument at this complex more than once, to no avail.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've got a huge cooler that will be packed to the brim in my truck and after my 2 1/2 hours in their facility (where I might purchase 2 H2O's) I'm out to the parking lot! They don't have any jurisdiction outside the gate.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL TEAMS! PRAYING FOR GREAT WEATHER AND NO INJURIES!

Coach Wendy
