NSA State Tournament

I give my applause to John and Lisa also. They are always around and accessible. Every big NSA tournament in the state has one or both of them there. They answer questions and can be reached anytime. Bravo John and Lisa.

I can tell you being from Boardman that we are not the ones criticizing Tealtown. Our Ohio Magic-Black (U12) :)team is a Boardman team and we very much enjoyed the tourney and thought it well run.

I would personally vote for a more central location to all teams as Cincy is 4.5 hours from us, but I would certainly go again if that is where it was held.

I thought Tealtown and the NSA did a great job!

I would like to state for the record that I was not bashing John or Lisa. I would like to say that we all pay alot of money to do this with our kid(s), and I expect better than little league. At the average cost of $400 per team at most tournaments I feel that things should be done right and right the first time. Someone a couple a days ago made a good point.... it's a business now for organizations and teams to host tournaments, but that does not make them capable either.
If anyone wants to think I have a bad attitude you are wrong. I am just tired of crummy tournaments that don't come thru like they say... i.e... saying your a Showcase and advertising colleges you claim will be there and none show.

I will get off my soap box now.. ;D

Our first game had gone several innings before the ground crew came out to install the base anchors. Sliding into second and third was an interesting deal up to that point.

I saw that some of the fields had soft bags, without anchors. At one point, a girl cruised into 3rd and stopped on the bag and the whole assembly (girl + bag) just sort of "surfed" a few feet feet together along the ground, a nice display of balancing skill - might have been fun if intended that way. Thought to myself though, somebody is going to get hurt trying to "round" in a hurry. Then, later, on the way to the car after we were thru, I saw a 10u girl crush one to RF, and as she sped around 1B the bag just flew out from under her as she cut it - it looked like she was in the air sideways for about 10 minutes B4 a pretty hard landing. Hope she was okay. Took a while to resume with the young lady being attended to, as we were driving away - hopefully she was fine since they are still made mostly of rubber at 10u. The biggest pet peeve of mine are safety issues. Otherwise, nice tournament though, well run, nice park, amenities not far from fields, no real complaints personally, enjoyable.

I can appreciate the base concerns although Tealtown has improved a lot in the last several years. They used to tie down the bases and I can remember a girl ripping all the ligaments in her ankle because she got her foot caught under the base while sliding in and her body came up over the top - not pretty!! When she came back she told us that after she got to the hospital, she came across two more players who had ended up in a collision at 2nd base because of the tied down bases - one was pretty beaten up and the other had broken her leg. We were told by the td that there had been many injuries that day and that an ambulance was permanently camped out at the field. So, even though the bases may not have been fixed in place, they are better.
As far as the tournament in general, I think the park was very reasonable for the weekend in all areas, and that John and Lisa did a great job for all the teams. They are always ready to hold conversations and field questions and complaints about anything and do it very calmly and professionally. The work they do and the time they put in is phenomenal, and I for one, applaud them. Umping - they are human and as in all jobs, some do it better than others, some are more patient than others, and everyone has good and bad work days. I just wish the association could weed out the consistently lower performers and those with an attitude as they really hurt the way we view them. Wouldn't be a bad idea for them to speak to the gallery before each game to remind the viewers that they will call the game to the best of their ability and that they would appreciate some tolerance. Generally speaking, umps do not lose games for the kids. Teams get opportunities and either do or do not capitalize on them. Our girls need to understand that that blaming the umps will not help them improve in the long run and that they need to take responsibility for their play. Granted, there are always exceptions, but I believe this is mainly a true thing. (And, yes, I have been known to get on umps for what I perceive to be bad calls! - (tongue in cheek) isn't razzing umps part of the game? )
