I did almost get tossed from a game last year though......

When I was umping my moto "You get 2 jabs at me,(right or wrong) then your warning, then your gone"....Did I make mistakes yes, but I got good report cards too (for my Hustle going out to make calls) (trying to get the proper angles) from coaches and players. Well, thought since it was brought up I would throw my two pennies in.:D

I totally agree....don't leave it in the judges hands, because, if the umps were awake in their class, they heard what quakerman said earlier yesterday and will abide by that rule of thumb. If ANY umpire states that "ties" go to the runner, they do not know their rules nor the design of the game. We have hijacked this thread enough. When I get a chance I will put a new thread out in the General Softball section.

whoa.......easy. :).
Are we talking tennis or softball here. Since when is a batted ball advantage Agassi? Lol. I mean advantage batter?

There are no ties, it's either safe or out. Unfortunately a lot of umpires are predisposed to make one call more often than the other. An umpire told me this weekend that in his umpire class they encourage them to take their time to make a call.....to actually SEE the entire play. I think that far too many umpires jump to conclusions before the play fully developed.....thus, far too many controversial calls.

Advantage Macinroe.....:lmao:

I will agree with that:yahoo:......but don't take 3-5 seconds, like one of our Umps at DOOM MADNESS..:eek:

was it at Expressway... a "Hollywood" moment....lmao

It was at Pasttime.....a "Hollywood" moment! You nailed it Lester! Hollywood it was.....

Two outs, runners on 1st and 2nd. Hollywood in the field. Our SS fields a ground ball and the runner from 2nd runs into her while our SS is about to throw to 1st. Our SS gets knocked off balance and can't make the throw. Hollywood calls everyone safe.

I come out of the dugout and explain to him that it was runner interference so the runner should be out. He tells me that the runner did not run into her while fielding the ball, she ran into her while in the act of throwing and that was okay. I laugh, shake my head and turn to the home plate ump. He says he's sticking with Hollywood's call.

Then I get a bit heated. I tell Hollywood how he's just created a new game called extreme fastpitch because every time the other team has the ball in the baseline I'm going to have my kids plow them over. He then proceeds to call me out for wanting to play dirty. I explain to him that it's not dirty if it's legal, then the home plate ump tells me he's had enough of me and I better get into the dugout. I say, "no problem, it's on now!"

When my girls got into the dugout after the half inning was over they asked me if I wanted them to really run over the fielders of the other team. I tell them of course not, I was just trying to make a point. A female coach for the other team obviously did not like what I said because after the game when shaking hands she squeezed my hand hard while staring into my eyes with a stern look on her face...lol. All I could do was laugh. I talked to Marty after the game, explained what happened, and all he could do was roll his eyes and shake his head.

I haven't seen Hollywood since......

Hollywood was at Expressway this weekend and he does some games at Corpus Christy FP League. I gave him his evaluation card before the game even started. He said I didn't even call the game.... how could you evaluate me? I said you are consistant, no problem with this evaluation process. He was speechless. God help us.

We got Hollywood late Saturday night and he nailed us a couple of times. Then we had him twice on Sunday and actually didn't miss a call. He was like a different umpire out there. Maybe your pre-game evaluation made him think about how bad he was doing.:lmao::lmao:
