Huh???? The players need to be emailing the college coaches they are interested in!! The travel coaches definitely help by getting the teams where the college coaches are, but it is the player the college coach needs to hear from regularly....!!

Kinda what I was thinking!

With 51 teams and 32 spots there are going to be some disappointed people. Looking at the list, there a maybe a half dozen that don't belong, and another ten or so that no doubt should be in there. Everyone else is up in the air. No shame then in being turned down; they make a decision and you go from there

So out of 32 spots, only 10 truly belong? And a half dozen that for sure don't belong? Oh brother, can't wait to see the list. May be some hard questions to answer as to why some teams got in.....

Having been involved in the selection process of selecting teams for this tournament, dont think its some time consuming, calculated process, its not.

My other issues has always been its based on what you did last year. With the turnover of teams today, many teams that were great last year, may not be quite as good this year. Especially at the 16 and 18U level, where players have left many of the "established" and well known teams for Gold Teams, both here and in Chicago. Though a short resume', The Fall is all you have to base teams on for this year. I know some players couldnt play, but it is a better measure then last summer.

I am not saying only 10 teams belong- They are only taking 32, so some are not going to make it. I can look at the list and see 10 really strong teams that have done very well over the years and have some legitimate D1 players- they certainly should make it. I sure many of the other teams are good and couls easily be in there, but the fact is they are only going to take 32- so some good teams will obviously be turned away. These are just the facts.

Don't look to be offended where no offense is intended.

Things must have changed a lot over the past few years soccormom. The selection process was always the part of this event that everyone dreaded. You want to make sure that the most deserving teams get in, while knowing that many others will be dissappointed. It's not fun. Teams do change makeup from the summer, but that coupled with the fall you can get a pretty good feel for teams. In the past those teams that aren't selected are usually watched during the summer to see how they would have fit. That really helps for the next year if they reapply.

Our team applied for many very hard to enter events this past fall and the year coming up. We are a new 95 team, but we have kids from other teams that played in high level events. We were able to tell our story to future TD's successfully. I am sure the Stingray group takes those things into consideration as well.

Yes some, (not all) of my players have contact with colleges they would like to attend. As for sending College coaches tournament information for my players; that was my exact point! Who will be in the area during the tournaments so I can do my part as a coach? Just think it's a great opportunity for coaches and players that both of these tournaments are near each other and the same weekend.

Coach Mike, I think were are saying the same thing, just differently.

In addition to the players emailing their prospective coaches, the coach needs to be proactive and let college coaches know about their team. Travel coaches need to be a salesman for their girls. Let the college coaches know which girls from your team are interested in their college. Find out what the college is looking for, recruiting wise, and then try to sell one of your girls to that coach.

To me, that is a responsibility of a 16U/18U travel coach. The next time you are at a showcase, look to see how many travel coaches know, and talk with, a lot of the college coaches. This happens because they are proactive in establishing contacts and getting that network going. College coaches know what other college coaches are needing and they let travel coaches know so that the travel coach can let their girls know that so and so college has a need that they might want to look into.

wvanalmsick,

We were saying the same thing; I just didn't take the time to present it the it was intended. I coach the 14U team with 8th and 9th grade girls; so I have some time to work with this group. Just trying to help get them moving in the direction they would like to go.

Thanks,
Coach Mike

soccormom - the more I think about your comment the more I want to know more about your claim. Again having been fairly knowledgable about this event over the years I find it interesting that someone that "claims" to be have been involved in the selection process doesn't think it is a consuming process, because it is. What was interesting to me is that you signed up on this system in 2009 and have 5 posts to date - 2 of which are on this topic. Not that I am a skeptic or anything, but something doesn't sound right here. Because everyone here values your opinion why don't you tell us what year you sat on the selection committee. Even better why don't you tell us who you are. You can PM me if you prefer. The funny thing is that while many women are involved in making this tournament a special one - there has only been one female that has sat on the selection committee, and she is a current coach. Either I am misinterpreting your nickname or it is meant to be misleading. The one thing I like about this site is that it allows for the free and easy exchange of information. What I dislike about sites like this is that they allow people to make comments without being held accountable.

everybody should list "their" team list of who should be in and we'll see who is closest when the "official" list is posted.

As a coach of teams that have both been turned down and invited to Stingrays I think Rudy and his staff do a great job with this event. Its not disrepect if your team gets turned down. Also as TD for many years I can tell you I would not want to take on a job of putting together their tournament. More power to them and keep it up.

Hey Wave that is a very interesting idea, I think people would probably post their thoughts annonymusly though, but it would be interesting to see who came close to the official list.. Kinda like an office pool. You should start a thread, Stingray tournament list predictions!!!

Looks like the Stingray's are opening up the 10u bracket to allow a few more teams in .. very cool of them to do so. 16 teams is actually easier to bracket and play out with dbl-elim than 12.. glad to see a few more 10u teams be able to participate.

That decision is going to make several 10U young ladies and their coaches "ECSTATIC". :yahoo: It is great to see other teams get the opportunity to compete in the Stingrays tournament. Well done Rudy!!!!
