For the first time this year, scores will be auto-posted to Twitter as they are reported. Get live updates by following @StingraysTourn

Excellent! Free parking, updated scores, plus what looks to be good weather for the weekend. Play ball!

Good luck to everyone this weekend.

Glad I'm there to see the scores because I haven't grasped this Twitter thing and that would drive me nuts. Someone said a twitter is a text message but if that's so why do you need twitter, why not just send a text message? And if it is a text message and everyone is twittering these days isn't that a lot of text messages?

I like the free parking. We are playing in Pickerington which was free but makes it nicer to go watch other games.

Twitter is like a text message in the sense it's limited to 140 characters. The big difference is that you choose to 'follow' a Twitter account, so by posting 1 Twitter update it's received by many different followers. With a text message (on a phone) the sender would have select every number to send it to.

Scores will also be posted to the website and here on OFC like last year; the advantage to Twitter is that you can receive it without having to pull up a full-screen web browser; most smartphones have a Twitter app that allow you to browse Twitter and receive tweets without having to visit the twitter.com website. Also, you can select to receive tweets via text message or email, so it allows people to receive score alerts through those avenues as well.

It's something new we're trying as a natural extension of the many avenues that Stingrays provides information. I've never tried it before, so it will be a learning experience on my end as well.

Anyone know if any of the 23U teams could use a pickup player this weekend?

I was just re-reading the tournament rules to make sure I did not miss anything. Did anyone else catch this for tie breakers....

If there is a tie at the end of pool play among teams, the following will be used to break the tie:

1. Least amount of runs given up. If still tied, then?..
2. Most amount of runs scored. If still tied, then?..
3. Head to head. If still tied then?..
4. Lowest numerical zip code on head coach?s address of record on entry form

I just thought it was odd that head to head was the third tiebreaker? I am not sure if I have ever seen it this way before.

It's also a reason to list your address as somewhere way out on the east coast on your entry form as well. :)

I have. Seems common

Guess I haven't looked closely enough. I still find it odd that if team A ends up 2-2 and team B ends up 2-2 and team A beat team B that if team B gave up less runs that they would be seeded higher.

Ultimately I don't really care. We will play whenever they tell us to and not complain about it. I just thought that scenario would likely present itself with all these good teams in all these age brackets and would **** to be seeded lower than a team that you beat when it is not a 3-way tie scenario where you have to go to whatever the next logical tie breaker(runs allowed) would be after head to head.

I would like to thank everyone who attended the 2011 Stingrays Fastpitch Tournament. Thanks for being very understanding with the weather delay and the bracket decisions. The decision to drop the elimination bracket was to give all the girls the most exposure time possible. The organization decided that giving them 5 pool games at the regular time limit, not shortened at all, would give all of the girls the most exposure with the time remaing in the tournament. I know some out there were thinking "Why don't they just play through the night", but we didn't have the manpower or umpires available to even have that as an option.

The girls that participated were able to show their skills to a lot of college coaches. At my last count, which is in no ways official, there were 56 different colleges represented. About 3/4 of the schools sent 2 representatives. Rudy will post a complete and official listing in the next coming days of the official college turn-out.

As with just about anything in life, some mistakes occurred or there are some areas that we will need to work on to make this experience better for the girls. Rest assured that all comments will be reviewed by the organization and if possible, new measures put in place.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and talking with all of the other OFC’ers at the tournament. It is always good to catch-up.

Again, thanks for coming out and helping make this a great experience for the girls.

Since 10u and 12u are not there for exposure it would have been nice to attempt to save the brackets. But other than that great competition and I would like to compliment the staff at Coffey. They worked their butts off keeping the fields in shape including moving pitching rubbers when flipping from 10u to 12u and did this while keeping everything on time.

From my post on 16u:

"Thanks to the Stingrays for running yet again a great tournament. Early and effective decisions and communications regarding rain delays, fields dragged and lined every game, carts available to transport fans and players from the parking lots (and free parking this year!), super reporting of results, and modestly priced food at the concession stand. The Stingrays organization knows how to run a tournament and their volunteer families deserve many many thanks.

The two things that I would change are not within the power of the Stingrays. Namely, temporary fencing at regulation fastpitch distances and more leniency on when fields are available for play after rain.

Just a super tournament with very good attendance of college coaches.

And Casey the Wonder Dog loves those two ponds. (Fortunately the lake where she normally swims has geese and ducks so they got along fine at Beekman). "

This tournament is always one of the highlights of my season. Great competition, a wonderful facility (Beekman) with an electric atmosphere and games under the lights!

The only bummer (for me personally)...I was scheduled to work the 18U semi-finals and championship game. But with the format getting changed, those games were wiped out.

It was interesting to have Coach K from Ohio State sitting a few feet behind the backstop for one of my games!

Thanks to all the Stingrays involved! This was hands down the best overall tournament that we have been to this year. The communication and updates were great! I love the twitter account!

The people that took care of the Coffey fields did an absolutely fantastic job! All of the Stingrays staff, parents and coaches that I had any interactions with were great.

Would have been nice to see some kind of tournament play worked out for 10's and 12's and the long breaks between games were rough but ultimately all the teams got a minimum of 5 quality games and still had an opportunity to play for a championship. In the end the format actually made every game count rather than having any meaningless pool play games.

Thanks for excepting us and allowing us to come and participate, we look forward to coming back every year.

Stingrays staff,

Once again thanks for all the hard work in getting this tournament in, when the rains come everything goes out the window and you must make decisions that arent going to make everyone happy but what you feel is fair and the best for all involved. We had a good time although along with the college coaches we were also being recruited by the hospitals and emergency rooms. On sunday I looked at my team and all I could do is smile. Our status now is as follows: broken right hand, broken left hand, dislocated shoulder, lower back injury, left calf injury and a bruised, swelled up left hand tbd? Yes, it was an injury plagued weekend for us, but all said we cant wait to come back next year and give it another go! As always a "Top Notch" tournament!

Thank you,
Rick Heverly
