My biggest pet peeve as an 18u player and a catcher (who's been around the game since i could throw a ball) is when parents get annoyed at calls (mostly balls and strikes) and they yell and do theire oohs and ahhhs and "come on!". I understand that they get into the game just as much as we do and they just want us to win, but I am behind that plate every pitch watching the strike zone get smaller and smaller and smaller. Sometimes it gets rediculous, and i admit sometimes it's hard for me to hold my tongue. but the main point is THE UMPIRE HAS CONTROL OF THE GAME AND YELLING ABOUT HIS CALLS WON'T HELP!! i try to be polite and ask my team parents to settle down though, aswell as the girls, and explain to them that they aren't helping. I honestly like when parents sit down the line a bit and i can't hear them as much haha. I'm sorry if i got a little off topic on this one lol

Love this post!!!!! I've been trying to convince people to stay off of the ump's backs for years. Antagonizing and berating umps is never helpful. No matter how much you want to pretend they're not, they are only human.

I think that the TD's should blacken out the backstop fence so people can't set back there and run amuck;&;&

I TOTALLY agree with this. When I hit the lottery and build StingrayTajMahalSoftballcomplex the backstops will be screened. You are welcome UIC's.

Let's change gears. How about coaches etiquette. Saw a coach appear to hit daughter

during game last week in Akron. Or what about coach talking trash about ex-player on

facebook. Sad part about this coach is also JV coach at local school northeast of Akron.

I was talking to someone, not associated with either team involved, who said when they saw it happen they had to ask the person next to them if they saw it happen just because they couldn't believe their eyes.

That was YOUR 12U coaches description when they called our organization president. Ask them where the PUNCH was because they are the only ones who saw it!!!

Klump - I'm not sure how this became an organizational squabble. I'm not sure how you know my affiliation and I am not quite certain of yours. I do not care to know. I am a 16U coach for the Outlaws and I do not concern myself too much with what happens on the 12U teams. But it sounds like I stepped in something deep and smelly when I expressed my concern about what I had heard.

My point was not to attack any organization but rather hear a collective 'there is no room for physically or verbally harming a player' from the community of coaches/parents whether it happened or not. Issues like this that are brought to the forefront will remind us coaches that there is no tolerance for this in any sport and it may help protect kids that are unable to protect themselves.

In the famous words of Rodney King "Can't we all just get along"...seriously, I think this is a dead horse. None of us are gaining by keeping this post going from WestSideEvil...seems they always like to post some negative stuff anyhow. Lesson learned here is do not treat the kids bad...have respect for teh game and each other. Now can we please move on???

In two seperate tournaments, we have played the same 10u team 4 times. I am happy to say that thank goodness the kids did not take after their parents where etiquette/sportsmanship was concerned. The parents for this particular team spent all game, every game verbally harassing our players in the outfield and our coaches. They would just yell whatever nasty comment they wanted at the coaches but when it came to harassing the girls, they were slick. Many innings our girls would come in from the outfield crying bacause of the verbal abuse that the parents were saying to them. The umpires would tell us all they could do was say something to the coach, (which was also verbally abusive) so we knew that wouldn't do any good. The parents have given that team a very bad name and if thats how they have to behave for their girls to win, then they can have it. A 10u does not understand how to ignore an adult when they are yelling nasty things to them.
