I would tell my kid to either cut his hair or don't play. Rules are rules no matter how rediculous or insignificant they may seem.
I suggest a spelling test before each game. 100 percent right or you don't play!

I can only ask myself this... is this reverse discrimination and can fall under " Title 9 ".
If long hair in SPORTS creates problems of health and sanitation, obstruct vision, etc.... then WHY are girls allowed to have such
Should not the girls be "ordered" to cut their hair under these same school policies.. especially if health and sanitation is part of the reason for their policy?
I'm quite surprised nobody has brought up your points before now. Folks, I can assure you that TITLE 9 will be part of the basis of the lawsuit and the parents will probably win based on that. Like it or not, TITLE 9 doesn't just provide "benefits" for female athletes.
You guys probably think it was okay to burn draft cards also. You are making me laugh and I wonder why are society is on the fast track to mediocrity.
What a waste of a first post! A girl with long hair is not unusual and will not draw any undo attention, where as a boy with long hair will. Case Closed. As long as the rule does not unjustly punish someone the case has no basis. If the school, coach or AD singled out this kid and let others not abide by the same rule then they might have a chance.

The rule we have been debating says hair cut above the ears. So when we say long hair that would be any length that touches the ears. Hardly drawing any undo attention and not unusual.
Correct, above the ears, and eyebrows and not touching the collar. Sounds like an average military cut to me.
Can anyone tell me why the military keeps the standards that they do when it comes to hair and why females in the military have a different standard than the men do? They are being paid by our tax dollars and nobody seems to have an issue there.
Could it have something to do with the fact that people know what the rule is before they join and if they cannot conform to the rule they know there are consequences?!
Could it be that they accept the rule for the privilege of serving their country?
Could it be that at some basic level it makes them all equal?
Could it be that our government is trying to balance the budget by selling all this hair from our troops to the Hair Club for men?
Why do you think they do this?
military is a career or to whore yourself for college money.
That being said, no one admires the men and women who serve our great country more than I.
Wow, where did that come from? Do you feel the same way about students playing college sports for scholarship money?
Really? Hard to believe after the other comment.
Musty,
Yes they chose to join the military, just like he chose to join his middle school BB team. I don't believe they force you to play BB in Indiana, well maybe in French Lick.
Lighten up surfer dude
The s o c c e r team going to practice.
Oh wait, that's North Korea not America. LOL
