2020 WK #1 Player of the Week (Caliyah Clapper)

    Caliyah BIO

Caliyah Clapper is a 10 year old, 5th grader, at Mifflin Elementary, Mansfield, OH. She is a straight A student at this elementary school within the Madison Local School District. She placed 9th in the Richland County Spelling Bee last year. Caliyah also scored a perfect score on the state of Ohio 2019 Spring Math Test.

As we start into the 2020 season
WIcked 09 is excited to have this returning #12 to the line up. Last season as a birth year of 2010 Caliyah could still play 8U but made a decision to challenge herself and play 10U. In her 1st year of 10U she led her team with 4 home runs and a 0.429 summer batting avg. She also stole the most bases, 45, and drove in the most runs, 27. Midway through 2019 Caliyah decided she wanted to try pitching. She pitched a total of 5 innings all summer for Wicked in 2019. That wasn't enough, so she hired a coach and started to learn.

Caliyah is now entering her 3rd season with Wicked ‘09 and now as an ace pitcher. In only a few months she has learned to perfect spot pitching, improve a change up, and sped up her fastball to 47+MPH. With this skill Caliyah led her team to a championship at Queen of the Turf USSSA National Qualifier January 4-5 in Mt Vernon. Caliyah pitched in 2 games on sunday bracket play, the quarter final and the championship game. In those 2 games she pitched 11 innings, faced 44 batters, striking out, 18 of them. She gave up 4 hits and maintained a 60% strike percentage. Those pitches helped her team defeat the undefeated #1 Seed Lighting Blue in an International Tie Breaker 3-2 for the quarter final game. Eventually the championship would go on to be played against Ohio Emeralds ‘09, whom we placed 2nd to the previous weekend and tied in pool play. Caliyah pitched a shutout game, striking out 13 of the 19 batters she faced, giving up only 1 hit to a well placed bunt. She also went deep hitting a home run for her offense to run rule the Emeralds 10-0 in 5 innings.

This fall/winter season Caliyah leads her team with a 0.425 batting avg. She also has the most RBI’s, singles, doubles, triples, and the only homerun for her team. When not in the circle Caliyah is a true infield utility player spending time at every infield position except catcher. She is a top player for Wicked on offense and defense.

This one just completely has me baffled. So all Teams have at least 10 players and your telling me Coaches can't submit any players. Heck if I was still Coaching I would submit all my players. O that right they may be to busy trying to firgue out the team of week thing.

2020 WK #8 Player of the Week (Adelyn “Addy”)

Addy is a fourth grader at Bellville Elementary School in Bellville, OH where she is a straight A student. Addy also obtained a perfect score on her math placement test. When she isn’t playing softball, Addy also enjoys playing soccer, hunting & fishing. This is only Addy’s second season with Wicked 10U but she has quickly proven to be a leader on our team. Addy has worked very hard to improve as a catcher and now shares time behind the plate as one of her team’s catchers. So far this fall & winter, Addy is in the top three in batting average (.333), hits, singles and doubles for Wicked 10U. Addy also specializes in getting on base any way possible, leading her team in HBP. Addy volunteered to participate in a winter hitting league with four of her teammates. Addy was an integral part of that hitting league, helping her team win the hitting league championship. Even though Addy spends most of her time behind the plate or first base, she is willing to play anywhere on the field in order to help her team be successful. During the USSSA National Qualifier “Queens of the Turf” in Mount Vernon, OH, Addy made several terrific plays at second base to help lead her team to a 1st place finish. Addy sets a great example for her teammates with her hard work and positive attitude.

2020 WK #9 Player of the Week (Mya Perry)

Mya is in her 4th year with Wicked 09’ and has been a member of the team since it was started in 2017. Last season, Mya led her team with a .460 batting average and a .553 on-base percentage. She also led her team in doubles. So far this fall & winter season, Mya is in the top three on her team in batting average (.333), hits and walks. She currently leads her team in runs scored (24), stolen bases (33) and on-base percentage. Mya’s speed makes her a threat on the base paths whenever she gets on base. While Mya spends most of her time for Wicked 09’ at shortstop, her versatility and ability to get to the ball make her a threat anywhere on the field. Mya has received multiple Player of the Game awards voted on by opposing teams, including at the 2019 All Sanctioned World Series. Mya has proven to be a leader for Wicked 09’ with her hustle, positive attitude and work ethic. Mya’s fun & loving personality is infectious and always seems to encourage her teammates and others around her.

Mya is a 5th grader at Butler Elementary School in Clearfork School District, where she is a straight A student. When Mya is not playing softball, she is also a standout travel soccer player. Mya also enjoys spending time outdoors, playing football and drawing. Wicked 09’ is excited to have Mya returning for her 4th season.
