RACERS YOUTH FASTPITCH ORGANIZATION TO BEGIN PLAY IN THE FALL OF 2017 Akron, OH --Racers Youth Fastpitch is being developed to continue the ?Grassroots to the Pros? initiative dating back to the roots of the Akron Racers professional softball team which fielded its first team in 1999. The Racers Youth Fastpitch program will begin with ten teams in the fall of 2017 and compete in various tournaments and activities throughout the calendar year. ?This has been a long journey that is rooted in the formation of the Akron Racers Foundation in 1998,? notes Joey Arrietta, President. ?Our efforts, then and now, are to continue providing opportunities for young girls to mature and develop as players and to, hopefully, open doors to college and beyond.? The former Fury organization under the direction of Dan Peterson and its Board of Directors have agreed to rebrand their organization under the new Racers Youth Fastpitch moniker. The use of marks has been extended to the newly created organization in a mutually agreed upon Letter of Understanding. ?The Fury Fastpitch organization is very excited and honored to carry the name and tradition of the Akron Racers,? explains Dan Peterson, Fury board chairman. ?This affiliation will allow young girls from nine years old through high school to experience what it like is to be a professional. It is truly a privilege.? Fastpitch Partners, LLC, doing business as the Akron Racers, has been the anchor tenant at Firestone Stadium, now in its 16th season of play. The Racers have welcomed numerous events to historic Firestone Stadium including the Mid-American Conference Championships, the OHSAA Girl?s State Tournament, the USCAA National Championships and the USA National Team. Additionally, since 2001 the Akron Racers Foundation has conducted numerous high school, travel ball and youth tournaments.
