Doane Softball dropped a pair of one-run games on Wednesday at the Tucson Spring Games. In their first game, No. 14 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) held off the Tigers by a 5-4 decision. In the final game for Doane on the day, they were unable to complete the rally as they lost 7-6 to Aquinas (Mich.).

In the first inning against ONU, Doane pushed two runs across on RBI-singles from Kailyn Wiseman (JR/Sutton, Neb.) and Jordyn Stearns (SR/York, Neb.). Olivet Nazarene battled back to take the lead in the 3rd inning with three runs and then added two in the 5th to go ahead 5-2.

Doane was able to get two runs back in the bottom of the 5th to pull within a run. Jade Hill (FR/San Diego, Calif.) had a RBI-triple and Angelina Esqueda (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) followed with a RBI-single. Doane had chances to potentially tie or take the lead in their final two innings at-bat but left two runners on base in each inning.

Hill led the Tigers by going 2-for-2 with two runs scored. She had two triples in the game, raising her season total to five and currently leads the NAIA. The two in a game ties the Doane single-game record and her five triples ties the single-season record.

In game two, Aquinas built an early 5-0 lead through three innings of play. Doane picked up a run in the 4th on a RBI-single by Erika Herrera (SR/Corona, Calif.). Aquinas led 6-1 after plating a run in the bottom of the 4th. Doane, again, scored a run in the 6th only to have Aquinas answer for a 7-2 lead going into the last inning. The Tigers' run in the 6th came on a RBI-double by Tayler Mashburn (SR/Centennial. Colo.).

The 7th inning opened with three consecutive Tiger singles to load the bases. The Aquinas defense then helped the Tigers with back-to-back errors that pushed four runs across the plate and pulled Doane within a run. The Tigers had the tying run at second base, however, they were unable to bring the runner around to tie the game.

Doane had 11 hits in the game, two apiece from Hill, Esqueda, Herrera, and Mashburn. Wiseman led the team with two runs scored.

The Tigers will close out the spring break trip with two games on Thursday as they take on Dickinson State (N.D.) and Viterbo (Wis.).
