WACO, Texas -- LSU Alexandria (La.) edged the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) to claim the top spot in the 2020 RRAC Softball Preseason Poll. LSUA finished third in the RRAC regular season softball standings last year but surged to win the conference's postseason tournament title. The Generals responded after a loss on the first day to defeat UHV and Texas A&M University-Texarkana (Texas) in the final.
It was the second consecutive year that a third-seed rose up to win the RRAC tournament with UHV accomplishing the feat in 2019.
LSUA collected 52 points and four first-place votes in this year's polling, just ahead of UHV's 50 points and three first-place votes. The Jaguars were last year's regular season champs.
TAMUT placed third after finishing as the RRAC regular season and tournament runner-up last year. Jarvis Christian College (Texas) earned the fourth spot, followed by Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas), University of the Southwest (N.M.) and Texas College.
Voting was conducted by seven of the eight head coaches in the conference. Results of the poll are shown below with points calculated through a 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 format. First place votes are shown in parentheses.
