[Softball] RC Softball Day 3 in Florida Recap

COCOA BEACH, FL.—The Rochester College softball team swept the day with two wins, one over the Penn State Hazelton and Martin Luther College. RC won game one with a final score of 14-2 in five innings and then won game two with a final score of 3-0.

Game one was controlled by the Lady Warriors from the first inning as they jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after senior Kelcie Juhas (Midland, Mich./Macomb CC) flew out to leftfield scoring Chander Hill (Imlay City, Mich./Macomb CC).

RC was able to push across eleven more in the second, and three in the third. The Warriors were led by Morgan Box (Bay City, Mich./Oakland CC), who went 3 for 3 at the plate and 3 RBI's. Allie Jo Brookman (Swartz Creek, Mich./Mott CC) added two hits with 2 RBI's.

Alexis Evans (Hemlock, Mich./Hemlock HS) threw a complete game allowing 7 hits. She struck out 3 and gave up one walk.

The Lady Warriors picked up in game two right where they left off on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Rochester scored two runs in the first and one more in the second inning. The Knights were unable to find a way to score the entire 7 innings of play.

Brookman led the way for the Warriors going 3 for 3 with an RBI. Brooke Snyder (Willis, Mich./Ypsilanti Lincoln HS) played a key role offensively with a solid 2 for 2 at the plate with 1 RBI and a base on balls. Marlena Booth (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern HS) collected two hits of her own.

Snyder earned the win inside the circle for the Warriors, pitching a complete game while allowing 0 runs, 3 hits, 0 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Coach Tai Sharpley on the teams' start of the season:

"Things are continuing to look for up us. Pieces are starting to fall in place and we're playing with more authority and assertiveness. I'm really pleased with the progression."

The Lady Warriors will play their last two games in Cocoa Beach, FL tomorrow as they take on the Knights of Martin Luther at 9:00 am, and then the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University at 11:00 am before heading to South Carolina.
