WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons opened the day with an 11-3 win over the Peru State College Bobcats before falling 7-3 to the No. 5-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars today (Mar. 7) in the final day of the Friends Invite.

The Falcons used a pair of five-run frames to do the majority of their damage in the victory over Peru State.

Trailing 1-0 early, Tatum Haney (FR/Derby, Kan. ) drove home two runs with a triple and Bobbie Flores (SO/Riverside, Calif. ) capped the second inning surge with a two-run single to put the Falcons up by four runs.

The Bobcats come back with two runs in the third, but an RBI double by Flores got the run back in the fourth and a five-run sixth inning put it away for Friends.

The Falcons had six hits in the inning, starting with a double by Renee Downey (SR/Modesto, Calif.) who then scored on a single by Carolyn Dallimore (FR/Patterson, Calif. ). Kaylen Lassley (JR/Salina, Kan. ) then singled home Tate Bedick before Gianna Tijerina (FR/Fort Lupton, Colo. ) smacked a two-run double. Tijerina followed that by scoring the game-ending tally on an infield hit by Haney.

Hali Walters (JR/Longmont, Colo.) got the win for the Falcons by going six innings and giving up three runs along with four strikeouts and no walks.

Haney and Flores paced the Falcons' offensive attack at the plate, with each producing three hits and three RBIs. Downey went 2-of-2 at the plate for Friends in the win over the Bobcats.

Morgan Wilke had three hits in three at-bats for Peru State.

In the second tilt, the Falcons gave the Stars all they could handle early, with starter Michelle Kroell (FR/Clovis, Calif. ) holding the Stars scoreless with five strikeouts through the first four innings.

OCU got on the board with an RBI single by Kaitlyn Jones and a run-scoring double by Sarah Fisher in the fifth, but the Falcons managed to get one of the runs back when Lassley doubled to lead off the bottom of the inning and pinch-runner Madison Smith (FR/Murrieta, Calif. ) stole third and then stole home.

The Stars tacked on a run in the sixth before breaking the game open as a two-run double by Mallory McCoy finished a four-run seventh inning.

Makenna Mitchell (FR/Orange County, Calif. ) then belted her first career homerun in the bottom of the seventh for the Falcons (5-13), a two-run blast that plated pinch runner Heather Scott (FR/Las Vegas, Nev. ).

Kroell finished her 6 2/3 innings in the circle with three earned runs allowed and nine strikeouts.

Shelbey Cornelson struck out 13 batters and gave up three runs in her seven innings of work for OCU.

The Falcons will next host the College of Saint Mary Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 10) starting at 3 pm.
