WICHITA, Kan. – The Friends University Falcons got back into the win column with a pair of 4-2 victories over the Hastings College Broncos today (Mar. 1) at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.

A trio of home runs and a solid pitching performance by Hali Walters (JR/Longmont, Colo.) propelled the Falcons to the first game victory. Walters recorded a complete game win, giving up just one earned run while striking out a season-high nine batters. The Longmont, Colo. native blanked the Broncos over the final six innings, including twice stranding the bases loaded.

With the Broncos in front 2-0, the long ball parade started with Kat Davis (SO/Keller, Texas) belting her team-leading third homer of the season, a lead-off shot in the first inning that cut the deficit in half.

Hannah Lang (SO/Topeka, Kan. ) followed that up by starting the second inning with her first career homer to tie the score at 2-2.

Carolyn Dallimore (FR/Patterson, Calif. ) then hit her second homer in as many nights with a two-run go-ahead blast in the bottom of the fifth.

That was more than enough for Walters, who faced the minimum during the final two innings.

Renee Downey (SR/Modesto, Calif.) had two hits in the first game for the Falcons and Anastasia Krueger went 3-of-4 for the Broncos.

After the Broncos again took a 2-0 lead in the nightcap, the Falcons fought back with three runs in the fourth to jump on top. Davis singled in pinch runner Laney Leath (SO/Las Vegas, Nev. ) for the first run and Dallimore again came through with a two-run single that made it 3-2.

Kaylen Lassely then helped the Falcons add another run by singling to lead-off the fifth and eventually stealing home for a valuable insurance run.

"I feel like today was just what this team needed to get us over the hump and continue to grow as a team!" Friends head coach Suzanne Unruh said. "We've got a great week of weather ahead and I look forward to some consistent field practices to work on the little things we've been lacking."

Like Walters in the opener, Falcon starter Michelle Kroell (FR/Clovis, Calif. ) was dominant after the early going and shut out the Broncos during the final five frames while producing a career-high seven strikeouts.

Davis and Lang each had two hits in the second game for the Falcons.

Sarah Barger turned in an effective outing for the Broncos, going the full seven innings and giving up one earned run.

The Falcons will next host their invitational next weekend (Mar. 6-7) at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
