The Little Slammers shut out Ohio Ice 3-0 behind the pitching of Abbey Filliez in the final to win the 12U championship. Filliez threw a 4-hit shutout and was aided by some outstanding defensive plays as the Slammers won five in a row in championship play to win the championship.
The Ice had beaten Lasers Orange 5-4 in the loser's bracket championship game.

Congrats to The 16U PA Lady Road Runners White for finishing 2nd to a great Indy Dreams Team. The come from behind win against a solid Ice Blue Team to get to the finals was one of the most exciting games I have seen in 15 years. Down 3-1 in the seventh, you tied the game, Ice had based loaded one out in ITB, High pop fly to Right-Center, #68 caught the ball then threw a strike from the outfield to doubled up the Ice runner at home. #68 then had the winning hit/RBI.

I would like to thank all of the teams, coaches, players, parents, and fastpitch supporters for coming out to the 2006 Central Ohio Stingrays Tournament.

The competition in each age group was fierce. The girls played their hearts out for us and themselves.

I hope to see a lot of the teams at upcoming tournaments.

Play hard, play smart!!!

Anyone know how the outfielder from 18u Ohio Pride is doing? Took a hard collision in the game with Ohio Ice on Saturday nite.

The playing field conditions, especially considering the rain, were nothing short of superb. The younger teams played the majority of their games at Coffey, and although it's not as developed as Beekman, the playing fields were truly outstanding.
One suggestion: Have the 10U and 12U registration boxes at Coffey at the crack of dawn next year to avoid confusion with managers and volunteers.
Otherwise, a very well-run event. Playing at Beekman Fields was a treat for our young girls!!!

Couldn't agree more, the field conditions were wonderful (as usual). I do have another suggestion though: if the umpires are going to enforce the "batters box", could we please mark/layout the batters box. This was especially troubling/frustrating to have a girl (10U) called out for barely stepping out of an imaginary box. I know the box exist regardless if it's actually there or not, but this was a momentum killer and at 10U.....other than that though, great experience!

Tim Florea,

I agree with you. ?That has happened to us at other tournaments, although not this one. ?We were told that it was up to the umpires discretion whether the box needs to be clearly marked or not. ?In our experience, he kept calling a couple of our slappers out for stepping out of a non-existent box. ?Obviously, we needed a box, but he didn't seem to think so. ?We've never had that problem before- when there is a clearly marked box.

Glad you enjoyed the tournament.

Nice job by the Stingrays on putting on a great tournament. Fields were tremendous and the grounds crew did a great job.

Only had 1 ump that was either completely incompetent or had a grudge against out of state teams. It may or may not have made a difference in the game, but it was a shame to do what he did to those kids. Also had several other umps that were excellent. When you have that many teams I guess you get a stinker every once in a while.

Congratulations to all the teams that played this year, it was a class field all the way around.

I too was impressed by the umpiring--all except for two umpires. I try to make it a point to thank those umpires after the games when they do well.

Anyone know the top ten finishers in the 16U? Top five even? Also, would be interested to know how the girls are who collided in the field on saturday. We are worried for them. Thanks!
