The shoes belong to Bustos, Berg, Kretschman, Jung, and Flowers. They are the five retiring from international competition.

I can not believe this thread, its the same old thing, I see all the experts have dusted off their cyrstal balls and have spoken their predictions after the game. Its always much easier to speak of all the things we should have done after the game is played, Any body can lose on any day- that's why we play the game. If it was the best out of 3 games, would it be the same results?

Cat is a great person and a great player, if you have ever met her you would know she is not done and is not a loser, what a shame that everyone wants to bash her for one bad result. These athletes represented our country the best they could, but that was not good enough for you fair weather - wagon riders. They lost a game that we (they) all wanted to win, so what it happens. I respect the game and sport enough not to bash them at their lowest moument, what are we saying to our players - win at all costs or your just another loser. In regards to Candrea, I think his contributions to the game have been very well documented, I am willing to bet that the one bashing him above - are the same ones that will be pushing you down to get to the front of the line when autographs and photos are being taken. LOL!

I am proud of our USA Team, Coaches and Players. God Bless them all and this sports members.

I just heard a good one the USA lost on purpose to get the sport back in the games, now thats a SAC if true, I wonder if they would do it again - especially since they are a bunch of washed up losers now, LOL

Interesting way to look at things, we want our girls sports to be taken seriously yet when they lay an egg and we call them out on it we are needlessly bashing them? I respect them enough as atheletes to call them out, just like I would the Olympic MENS basketball team if they were to lay as big as egg as our softball team did.

I also find it hard to believe that there are not better players currently in the US then what was on this team, I promise you this, if Tincher was a pitcher in the PAC 10 she would have been on that team and pitching in that game. West coast bias needs to be called out here because its clear. The west coast has the best players, not debating that fact, but on the whole team other then 1 kid from Fla and 1 from texas, the rest are cali players.

Nobody questioned if Cat was a nice kid or not, it doesnt matter. She never has her best stuff in the biggest games and she should not have been used in that game. Clearly it should have been Abbott off of the current roster.

The US has had no need to change the make-up of their team because they have been steamrolling everybody, now that they lost, its seems to question the teams make-up is not out of line.

Bottom line, I love the sport and I would love for it to be taken seriously in the main stream media, that wont happen if us fans give them a free pass because they are nice women that sign autographs. This is perhaps one of the biggest upsets in years in all of sports and it happened in the Olympics and the only people talking about it are softball fans, that means we have a long way to go. Look at the Michigan/App St. game last year, the media still brings it up and that was an avg. College football team team losing to a Div II school.

I understand that you are still hurting from the sting of that lost last year, The fact that you call Michigan just an avergae team is proof that the whippins OSU has rung up since Jimmy's arrival has taken its toll,

Do we have better athletes available that was not on the USA TEAM, maybe. However - the best athletes always do not form the BEST TEAM. Point Your beloved Michigan, they had better athletes than ASU, but not a better TEAM. The TEAM must consist of the best players able to come together as a core. The USA team has dominated 12 years - 22 games and 3 Gold Medals in the games, They lose one game and they ****? Come on man.

There is a difference between laying out responsiblity for a loss and bashing. I don't know what Sports Channel you watch but I have seen something everyday on the loss.

I must agree that Michigan's LOSS last year is still one of the greatest upsets of all times and it is sweeter because it was Michigan, who in the Cooper days was able to win against OSU by usings Ohio's Sons against it self. The well dried up since Tressel acknowledges that Michigan must be beaten yearly and that without Ohio's players they can't do it.

West Coast Players and the Pac 10 have been the elite of fastpitch, because they embraced the sport long before the rest of us did. Now the rest of the country is catching up and we will see more and more non west coast players emerge as the sports greatest.

How many Nationals were won by non Cali teams during the last 15 years.

Your think Tincher would have won this game! You are better than Candrea, who's coaching experince told him Cat was the best for the game. Unless Candrea just felt like being the Michigan of fastpitch that game. I have to believe that he has a tad more skill at winning big games than the people posting on this thread.

I think you mistook my statement about Cat being a great person, I never said anything about autographs being a critria for USA team selection. Great Player & Great person somtimes = Great TEAMmate.

Now you be honest and tell us -that Abbot , whom I watch at my beloved UT has the international -big game experince that Cat and Finch has. She is a great player and person and will be one of the stable anchors for USA softball for years to come, but she has never even pitch in a NC games - let alone a Gold Medal Game. She and Tincher will replace Cat and Finch just as Smith and Fernandez was replaced.

I still believe to support your team without question, just as I know you believe Michigan will win it all this year.

Listen, Team USA showed loyality to players that are past their primes. If you think the women on this team are as good right now as their were in college then your not being honest with yourself. Finch right out of College would have slammed the door on Japan, they would have been lucky to get a hit.

Are you telling me at the age of 33 and out of college for 10 years, there is not a better player in the country then Laura Berg? Team USA is caught in the past,time to rebuild, get players in their prime and hungry to play for team USA.

On Tincher, I watched her pitch 2 games live this spring. I have never, ever seen anybody like her. I could not believe the movement that kid had, and her rise ball is a blur. Yes, if she pitched that game, we win. They dont score a run. Hinesight is 20/20, I will say I questioned starting Cat as soon as I seen who was starting. The next do or die game against a tough team she wins will be her first.

Bustos was asked if the USA had the strongest players in the country, she replied "It had the best TEAM Players." I think this might shed light on the reasoning behind the selections.

There was a travel team here once upon a time that had 5 - 1st team all ohio -AAA players on it. the team went under .500 for the season. Alot of ME's don't make a TEAM.

I agree there are younger stronger players out there but that does not mean they would be more, than the team sent this year.

Pretty bold comments to say that Tincher is more capable than Abbot. I have seen both pitch live also, both have alot to offer but I have seen Cat pitch too. To say she is incapable of pitching a big game is not really supported by her stats.

I wish I could pick the winners as easily as all of you seem able too. I thought - Candrea when I spoke with him was pretty down to earth, very intelligent and open minded, He really fooled me - I should have seen he was a idiot, closed minded, favorite pet collector, who just turns in a lineup card. I feel like such a fool.
