Re: The GAPSS tournament can't be this weekend, ri
Sorry 3up3down...the Ice 1st baseman DID NOT throw the ball at the injured Stingray! The Ice player was on the ground herself for a minute as the Stingray player collided with the Ice player while trying to beat the out the throw! The only direction the ball went after it left the Ice 1st players hand was towards the pitchers mound as is standard after a third out!
After the Stingray player was applauded as she was able to walk off the field on her own by BOTH teams and their parents, the field Ump called 1 minute left and both he and the plate Ump said game as the Ice were home team and were already ahead so there was no point in them batting, the girls shook hands and prepared to leave the field.
It was a Stingray Coach who said---Wait---there are 3 minutes left---we want the Ice to bat and sent their own team back onto the field. ?Why subject your players to that when there is no way to get all your players back on the field and get three outs that quickly. ?
As for how the Ice at bat went...the 1st batter up hit a pop up that dropped in behind 2nd base and center field. ?The 2nd batter up was hit by the pitcher and given the base. ?When that happened the Stingray coach called time and went to the pitchers mound and gathered up his team there and talked to a few minutes, so the Ice coach said to the plate Ump can we call game now and then when the Ump said game the Stingray coach walked off the field with his players and started gathering up his equipment. ?One of the Ice girls asked her coach, are we going to go out a shake hands/good game with the Stingrays? The Ice coach looked at the Stringray bench and saw they were packing up their gear and said No we've already done that and had his girls pack up their gear also since they were running behind and it was getting late and there was another game that needed to be played before it got dark.
As for the umping...kudos! ?The plate Ump had a very nice strike zone. ?The field Ump was consistent with his calls for both teams. ?You really couldn't ask for more.
It was a close and well played game by both teams. ?
As for the "attitudes" supposedly displayed, REMEMBER...
If you want respect...you need to give it.
There IS a difference between c*ckiness and confidence.
EVERY team out there is beatable...don't walk out on the
diamond and assume from the get-go you are going to
cream your opponent.
If your team is taking care of business on the field, a call you don't agree with isn't going to matter.
Sure, challenge a call if you believe it was blatantly wrong but do it with class and not belligerence.
Done.
