How about just posting on the tryout's that phone calls or emails are going out on a certain day. If you don't get an email or call by that time, you didn't make the cut. Sounds pretty cut and dry.

I remember very well the night I had to make the phone calls last year...We did inform all the girls when our final decision would be made and when they could expect a phone call.

Knowing I would not enjoy making the calls to girls that were not being selected, I tried to delegate these to an asst. coach...no takers. Naw..I knew it was my responsibility.

Interesting thing is, in the Spring as I followed the HS softball schedule I ran into several dads whose kids had attended our tryout...the one constant was how friendly they were and appreciative that they were called.
