Hi, no, we didn't get to meet. I spoke with a very nice lady in the shop and also finally got to meet Joni and her daughter. I wish we could have stayed longer, but I have this strange habbit of always being able to find Youngstown, but always getting lost on the way home, so we left before it got too dark. My dd wanted to get some hitting lessons in before middle school ball starts, but I can't schedule anything yet until I see her and her brother's practice schedules (mom's taxi service). :)

Dave,
Thanks for yet ANOTHER great tournament! God am I tried. ?I "hit the wall" before the kids did with only 10 hours sleep since Thursday, but I should be happy with that.

Jeff and Lee, great seeing you guys. I'm sure we'll see each other this summer somewhere, Slammers will be coming to Stingrays this summer.

Nice seeing all the other coaches from Spirit, Pgh Pride, Roadrunners 10 and 12 (nice to see Bill coaching 10s, good choice) and the Force!
Moz, great getting to final meet and talk some softball.

And of course we CANNOT forget out "favorite umpire".
(won't say who so they all think their my favorite ?;) )

It was a great opportunity for our young team to play the "tournament favorite" Pgh. Spirit the first game on Friday night. ?It was a much needed learning/growing expereience. ?The team learned quickly the level needed to compete at the 12u level. ?HATS OF TO THE PLAYERS AND COACHES OF SPIRIT! ?You'll have a great season this year. ?This was a good tuneup weekend for you heading to Spano next weekend to face some very tough competition.

Our girls did great over the weekend coming back to win four games after the opening loss making it to the semi-finals before running out of gas and players that could function. ?A finish of 3rd going 4-2 in the first 12u tournament entered was a huge accomplishment.

Good luck to all the teams this coming season!
(I'm going to get some sleep now!)

I am assuming Spirit will finish, no one has any gas left to compete with them. They were to reface the WV Firestix, but would have to be beaten twice. I know we had NOTHING left to go on if we would have won the semi-final game. Our pitchers, catchers and fielders and coaches were done, you could put a fork in them (and they wouldn't have felt a thing)

It sounds like the Spirit won the tournment. ?Does anyone have the scores of the semi's and finals?
At this point I don't think Dave updated the brackets.

Thanks in advance

I believe the final of the semi in 12s was
WV Firestix 3 over Slammers 1

Oh and I was corrected that Slammers came back and won 5 games in losers bracket before the final loss in the semi-finals. Boy did we get our moneys worth out of this tournament.......SEVEN GAMES of much needed and appreciated experience.

Great job on all the Feb. tournaments Dave and Marcee, they get better every year. Hope you took today off!

Sorry to take so long to get everything updated and posted.

Marcee's mom died Friday morning, and we had the funeral today.

All of the brackets are now on our website: http://www.thunderplexsports.com

A big THANK YOU to all of the teams, coaches and fans for a great weekend. Actually - for all of the weekends. This month, we had a spectacular round of tournaments with teams from as far away as Maryland, Minnesotta, Canada, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. For most of the teams, this was their first time to the Thunderplex and the comments we got were overwhelming. It was also great to finally be able to put faces with some of the names.

I'm looking forward to following your teams (and hopefully watch some of your games) when the summer season begins. I was very jealous - wanting to be on the field with you.

We tried some different things with the scheduling this year. Some things worked - some can be improved - and some didnt work. Marcee and I welcome your comments and criticisms about the complex and the events, so please take the time to let us know what your feel. We plan to extend field 3 out to the wall - allowing for a 3rd field of 9 on 9 next year which we hope will fix some of the game times.

On the format - one of the things we are looking hard at is the bracket format. Do we stay with the double elim w/reentry, which gives more games, or go to a 2 pool game into single elim, which allows for better scheduling? Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks again for the support.

Dave,
Personally I like the format you use with bracket double elimination w/reentry. Heck we played 7 games (5 within 19 hours), where else can you do that during the winter months.
It will help having field three in full use, but it made for a great warmup area for the teams, plenty of room for everyone.
You need to get another weekend in the month of Feb so you could have the 12s and 10s split. Its been a long time since I saw that many 10u teams participate in the winter, that is great.
You could add on a sleeping room for us coaches that needed a nap!
Thanks again,
Joni

I like the format too. I think you should cross the upper bracket with the lower bracket in the losers bracket though. It was possible to play the same team twice before finals. Other than that I liked it. (and playing til 3:00 am was a little tough too :) - we could even make Friday night games after 8:00 pm. - Classics Black 16 had a great time.

Thank you all.

Joni, please dont let Marcee know that there is life outside of softball. It's taken me 15 years to brainwash her. :)
