I like the post from the parent of the Miami Valley Twisters. It is nice to read positive posts about teams and coaches. There are some coaches out there (parent coaches too) that are doing a great job.

The Miami Valley Twisters proved to us that kids can learn a lot, be competative against the best, have loads of fun and do it all on a shoestring budget. Just goes to show everyone that it does not take $1000 dollars worth of uniforms, matching batbags, or a $400 dollar sign on fee to be a part of something great... ;D ;D

Might also throw in there... look for good, dependable, supportive parents. Ones that back their daughters and the team, including the coaches. Not ones that yell at or make fun of the umpires, coaching staff and other teams. You do want you daughter to learn good life skills also.

By golly h22,we're going to "jettison" just those type of folks you're talkin about!! Don't judge a Lizard by his color.

Twisters have been lucky enough to have a great bunch of parents. Our dd's coach laughs and carries on with the girls.
The girls seem to be laughing and enjoying themselves all the time. We could have spent a lot of money on other teams, only to shell out more for batbags, shirts, ect. But we made the right decision and went with this team. Small, but fun and layed back, unlike teams who draft players just to win trophies.

Bold_1, not sure of what Lizard you are talking about, and I am sure I don't want my daughter associated with any color of Lizard. *Ou812, I agree. Don't need to win trophies to be a good team. Trophies don't mean anything if you aren't having fun and learning something along the way.

I THINK PARENTS SHOULD TAKE A VERY GOOD LOOK AT ALOT OF TEAMS IN THEIR AREA.SURE YOUR DAUGHTER MAY BE GOOD ENOUGH TO PLAY FOR A VERY TOUGH TEAM,BUT IS THE AMOUNT OF TIME SHE SPENDS ON THE BENCH GOING TO BENEFIT HER LATER ON.THERE ARE SO MANY TEAMS THAT ARE RIGHT ON THE EDGE OF PLAYING DEEP INTO TOURNAMENTS IF THEY ONLY HAD 1 OR 2 MORE EXCEPTIONAL PLAYERS.MAYBE YOUR DAUGHTERS TALENTS COULD BE PUT TO USE ON THESE TEAMS WHERE SHE WOULD PLAY MORE, RATHER THAN JUST FILLING IN.

One organization that you missed is the Lake Erie Waves in the Sandusky/Huron Area. They have built up from two teams 4-5 years ago to teams in 10u thru 18u that are very competitive. This years 16u team is solid top to bottom.

Even though they have been pulling talent from their local conference area in the past, they are now being sought out as an organization to play for from all over Northern Ohio.

As in all sports the top organizations are able to pull players from a large (state wide) pool of talent. ? ?These teams are comprised of the best players, at a given position and that given moment. ? This allows them to win a lot of tournaments and games. ? That being said there are a lot of talented players playing on lower level teams. ? ?There is no shame in ?being the second, ?third , ? or tenth best player in town. ? I think you can judge how well an organization / team prepares players by how they do in high school ball. ? ? In hs ball you are not surrounded by only the best talent and therefore more of the burden is on the players shoulders. ? ?Some players do well others don't. ? ?Each player will develope at their own pace. ? ?Don't be too worried if a player is not great at U12, ? you probably won't be able to tell who the dominant U12 player was by the time they are U14. ? ?Bottom line the top organizations are great but they may not be what is best for every player.

I would have to disagree with you Jerry. We had a total of 16 girls come to our tryouts last year in 12u. I had 3 returning from the previous year. Which means I took 8 from a pool of 16. Our girls won 9 Championships out of the 10 tournaments we entered and got runners-up in the other one. We beat the Lasers, Ohio Ice, PT Cruisers,Wolfpack and several other good teams and did real well at Nationals. You can't teach winning. We had 5 eleven year olds and 6 twelve year olds. Just because the area is bigger to choose from doesn't mean it's better. These girls proved that.

Tyler,
Great comments. The fact that you guys had such a great season with a local group really had to be based on the fact that your coaching is top notch, not to discount your players at all. It is far more enjoyable to watch teams that are more regional and have such success as your team did than say an organization that draws from the whole state and beyond. A team like that obviously can be very good. But it almost seems unfair or wrong, though I know that it is completely within the rules. I just liken it to pillaging of a town. Congratulations on a great season.

Not all the top organizations pull from state-wide talent pools, or rely on an ever changing roster to garner the top "talent" each year. Our team is composed of kids from the northern suburbs of one city and we have competed quite well over the years (including Nationals). One of the keys to our success has been the continuity of the team (had only 1 player leave in the last 2 years), half the kids have been with the team since 10U. This has given the team a great chemistry and enabled the coaches to focus on each player's development need from year to year. Good coaching, hard work, heart and class can take a team a long way and an organization that nurtures those things is what I look for.

I hear you tyler. ? The are exceptions to every rule. ? ?However the larger is better concept is the reason for the dividing high schools into divisions. ? ?Are there division 3 schools that can beat division 1 schools some years, ?of course. ? Hey Japan beat team USA this year but I wouldn't bet on them doing that year after year. ? ? And I agree totally with your assertion that team chemistry is important. ? I think that many teams lack great chemistry. ? ?

thank you bhoh for keeping track of player movements. ? ?

I believe the OFC HEAT has a spot in the top ten organizations. The OFC HEAT ORANGE 13u came 1st in the 12u USSSA world series last year and 10th in the 14u NSA world series this year and came 3rd in 14u nsa state tournment and won the beevercreek tournment and came second in 3 other tournments. the OFC HEAT has great coaching staff in all age groups 12u,14u,16u and GREAT sportsmenship and parents. i have been in the OFC HEAT organizations for 3 years and have been very pleased.

I think they have reason to brag they did have a great year. And the 12u level of competition at states this year could have caused ANYONE to slip up! Don't you agree?

Bink, First of all I don't consider it bragging. Those girls work hard for what the won! At A states this year we did faulter, no doubt. Of course things would have been different if we could have won both pool games,we could have went home and came back fresh the next day, but we didn't. But considering that the State Tournament Directors found it in there hearts to give us game 1 against the Lasers Green which we beat 6-3, then game 2 against ?Miami Valley Express which we lost 1-0. Which I believe were the final 2 teams in the state "correct". I don't think my girls have anything to be ashamed of. Playing 2 great teams like that in one day should have been enough. I certainly didn't see a tougher pool bracket did you??Congrats to the Ohio Ice and the Wolfpack the 2 other teams we previously beat to win tournaments that beat us that day by identical scores of 6-5 . ?Tyler (Proud of my 12u girls !!) Thanks for the nice comments lovetowatchfps.

Coach Tyler, you do have every reason to be proud of your Valley Extreme 12U. Without a doubt one of the top 5 12U teams in 2005, along with (LG, MVE, CD And VS). I apologize for jumping the gun, it's just that I've been reading so much boasting, bragging and missed info from one sbguru, that I've become quite defensive. lol
