About this time there is usually a tryout thread for teams to include tryout dates and times, as well as a map to see which teams are within your driving distance. You can ask about private tryouts or take your DD to a tryout and watch so she will get an idea of the type of drills. As people commented already, attend tryouts with a few different organizations to see which is a best fit. You'll be with this organization for the next 12 months. Best of luck.

I would definitely work on teaching her some bunting skills, at this level it is just as important to be able to bunt in certain situations as it is to hit in other situations. Every player throughout the lineup may be called upon to lay down that critical bunt in a tight game no matter where they bat in the lineup.

Once again, thank you -everyone - for your advice and messages, etc. In my experience, it is pretty rare to find so many parents willing to help out and offer advice and assistance (especailly to someone they don't even know)! Where we live, the parents seem very competitive over their kids' sports and everyone is always trying to get that secret extra edge that someone else doesn't have. I'm not sure if it is for high school or college playing time or scholarhsip reasons or what.

We are not in this for college scholarships. Her school (gardes 6-12) is small and independent and doesn't even have softball or other sports. She plays softball because she loves it and is good at it. Our philosophy is that sports can be used very well to teach life lessons about hard work, perserverance, disappointment, etc. She is our only child so we are blessed enough to have the time and resources to see where this all takes her and will support her in whatever way we can the whole way.

My knees and legs wouldn't look like I just lost a bad fight to a kickboxer if I didn't care so much ; )
