4th Annual USSSA/Softball Zone - "Futures" Invitational - April 23-24, 2016.
USSSA - 2016 National Championship Qualifier - Top 2 teams will pick up NC Berth
RVBFY - Marion 43302. Preferred format is 4 pool games seeding into single-elimination bracket play. We may also be able to do 2 game "mini-brackets" seeding into a 3 g/g double-elim bracket. With this quality of a field, double-elim may be the best way to proceed.

Event is an invitational for returning teams from the Softball Zone Top Ten polls for 10u and 12u.
We are also offering one day 8u - coach pitch format on Saturday only and is open to 6 teams max.

USSSA does offer "odd year" age classes. Teams that classify as odd year (9/11/13/15) must have all girls with the same birth year or younger. If more than 2 odd year teams participate in a traditional age group bracket, there will be a odd year NC berth offered to the highest finishing team. If we can get enough to create separate pool play, than we will group those teams in the odd year pool. Teams will be placed in traditional bracket play to determine a tournament champion. Younger age group teams are also encouraged to "play up" and see where your team stacks up at the next age level. This year the USSSA Great Lakes Division "Odd Year" National Championships are in Marion, OH the week of July 13-17, 2016. Info here: Great Lakes "Odd Year" National Championships.

USSSA - 2016 Qualifying event open to 8u-cp, 8u-pp, 9/10u. & 11/12u teams. National Championships locations are listed here: 2016 USSSA National Championships link

Entry fee is $400 for 9/10u & 11/12u teams. 8u is $200 for either day. Also enclose $35 USSSA 2016 registration (sanction) fee if not already registered. If you need to register, please click here: USSSA Team Registration Info. TEAMS CAN ENTER WHILE THEIR REGISTRATION IS PENDING. We will require a $100 deposits to hold spots. Schedules have been released for all divisions. Click on the link below, use the drop down and choose the age group in question. Click on pool schedule to see the match ups.

In the 10u and 12u we are doing 2 random pool games seeding into a 3 g/g bracket. Please note the games with a * beside the game number in parentheses in the middle of the game slot in the losers bracket. The games with a * means the team that loses in that slot is still in the event. They move to a game slot in the next round normally on the opposite side of the bracket. If your team loses there first 2 bracket games, they are not eliminated from the tournament. An 0-2 bracket team can run the table and still win the event. We came to this decision because we felt with how talented this field is, it would not do justice to the teams to play a bunch of pool games and then have a tough draw in the first game of bracket and then be eliminated from the tournament on Sunday after one bracket game. The winner of the 10u and 12u will "earn" it on the field by playing some really good teams along the way. With us getting into bracket play on Saturday, we also are not eliminating teams until Sunday morning. The action on the field should be excellent and we are excited to get this one underway.

Weather Update Information during the event will be provided by the onsite tournament director, the USSSA online system, and also thru the Rained Out SMS Text Message Service. Text MARION to 84483 to receive 4.23.16-marion alerts from Ohio USSSA. Texting charges may apply.

We use the USSSA system to send out alerts and updates. Please make sure that your coaching staff info has been loaded to the system. A good rule of thumb is to also list for your players their parent's emails and cell phones if you choose. I send updates to coaches and players and this can make life easier for you to get information out quickly.

We will send out a text when brackets have been seeded and are ready to view.

Please download the USSSA app for score and bracket updates. Click here to do this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/usssa-app/id921528323?mt=8. Also in Google systems, just search for USSSA. The app is hosted by Right Brain Media. We post score updates usually within 30 minutes of the game slot ending but can be by the next game time.

Did someone say the Young Guns were looking for an early season test, whether we did or not, the draw says we are in for one, kick off the outdoor season with the Roadrunners and then the Stingrays. We ran into the Stingrays in the fall and they took us out behind the shed, so it will be interesting to see if our time spent during the winter season paid off. Then again I am wondering if the winter season is over since we just got about 5 inches of snow over the weekend. #compete

Thanks to everyone who helped make this event go off. I especially want to thank coaches who gave input when we posted this idea on the forum last August. I wouldn't have been able to get some of the quality teams to participate if not for that insight into who had quality clubs. Also congrats to the teams on great showings. This was a tough field and 3-2 or 2-3 is still a good weekend playing the best teams in Ohio.

Final results have been posted here: http://www.usssa.com/fastpitch/TournamentMain/#/?eventID=173612&gdSport=16. All you have to do is select a division and then follow the tab links on the top to see pool play results, standings, and brackets.

All 3 divisions featured some very strong teams with a lot of good play and most importantly sportsmanship. I seen a lot of coaches smiling and networking and some great softball along the way.

I also want to thank Ricky and Jeff for stopping out to broadcast the 10u final. Also got to see some friends like Mike Slob and Lee Pyles hanging out enjoying the action.

We plan to do this again next year only to try to get some of the surrounding states better teams up here if possible. I try to learn from every event that I host and this weekend had some lessons to be learned. The play on the field made up for it. Did you know we had an 8u girl hit one out in the semi-finals in the coach pitch? Softball in Ohio is definitely on the "rise".
