So I came across a article that Florida is considering giving high school players a fifth year of eligibility for students that were impacted by the coronavirus. Georgia already announced its campuses are closed for the rest of the school year and they would not grant students a fifth year of eligibility due to the coronavirus. What’s interesting about this Florida situation is that the high school athletic directors are not in favor but over half of the softball coaches surveyed are in favor of giving seniors the option to come back for a fifth year. The whole discussion started in Florida when Governor Ron DeSantis announce during a news conference that students will be allowed to repeat their current grade level in 2020 and 21.
Since then FHSAA executive director George Tomyn said his staff will follow the lead of DeSantis and Florida department of education.
