At age 5 she played tee ball because mom signed her up.At age 6 she returned to play because she out hit all the boys.
At age 7 and 8 she played because of the playing time she recieved, being one of the few girls that could field the ball and throw from 3rd to 1st.
At age 9 she played because team needed someone who could throw the ball underhand across the plate.
At age 10 and 11 she played because of the fun she was having with her friends.
At age 12 she discovered travel ball and needed to prove the people wrong that underestimated her.
At age 13 she played for the smiles of the teamates and coaches that would greet her at the park on Saturday morning, knowing she would give everything she had to make sure they would still be playing late on Sunday.
At age 14 she began to play for the goal of playing college ball.
At age 15 she played as a freshman for school pride. And in travel ball, she played so she could go to the ASA/USA nationals. Now at age 16 she plays for school pride and the collegiate attention she is receiving and sharing with her travel ball teamates.
At different ages, they play for different reasons.
For the past 11 years she has played because of the attention she has received, and the time she has spent with family, friends, teammates, coaches and her community. But most of all, she loves the game.

There is no way she is only playing for me. This is the same child that barely gets up by 6:30 am to catch her 6:45 am bus for school. But if its a game and its early? She shoots out of bed like a rocket. Dedication isn't learned. Its passion that is driven. She is motivated to practice pitching, hitting, fielding. I don't remind her to do that. I wish I was that focused at 13.
