All I did was say we would send the 'Hawks Limo to Mentor every weekend to pick Big Al up ... both strong pitchers are back - it is gonna be fun!

Thank god Doug, it's only a limo. I thought for sure you were going to say you have a Hawks plane or helicopter...;&

Unfortunately not. Had planned to but the team disolved after the last tournament. Looking for a home team once again.

Same here. Advice to all, "find a team coached by a non-parent". To much drama. S.O.S

If that were the case, it would be VERY hard to make the team because there would only be a few teams around. The parents who coach far outnumber the non-parent coaches and just because you had a bad experience doesn't make all parent coaches bad.

Like Klump said, that approach can't work for everyone.

Best advice is to do your research to see if the team is a good fit for your DD. There are all kinds of teams - competitive, developmental and social/rec. Figure out what you're looking for first and then find the right team.

I would agree that its up to the parents on whether or not they like a coach with a daughter that plays. I am the only coach in our organization that doesnt have a daughter that plays. But that doesnt mean I dont have to work just as hard. What I have found out is that I went to 2 coaches clinics last year and out of the 50 coaches only 8 DID NOT have daughters that played. So as parents, you may wanna find out for yourself what coaches are putting in the time and effort to make ALL girls on his or her team compete at their highest level.

No we will NOT return to same team. It is time to find a team that is eager to play in more challenging tournaments with the hopes of making it to a national. The team DD played for did not have the desire for either. Not to mention unfortunately there was some daddy ball being played. Had a great run with the team, great parents but time to move on! Good luck to all in this crazy "tryout" season!

At this point in the tryout season, there are many that don't know for sure if they are back. some teams make all players try out again. what if you are not chosen?

that would say that all the yes votes on here have been told by the coach that they are being asked back and guaranteed a spot?

I basically posed this same question earlier in this thread but there were no takers.

I said yes.....my DD does have to try out, but I am also a Assistant Coach with the team. And the Head Coach also has his DD try out also. So yes they are on the team, but they have to go through the try out with all the other girls also. Any of the players from last year also have to try out again and know this, they are not guaranteed a position just because they did play last year. All have to come and give their best effort same as the new players coming to try and make the team. And the decision will be made from there as to whether they are asked to come play.
