Afer long thought process and many, many tears (mostly me hahahahaha) We are making a change. After 3 yrs with an AWESOME organization my dd decided she didnt want to play at all. She wants a 'life'. So after 2 months of No Mom I am not playing at all next year. We reached a compromise. I found her a team the stays local and fits my ever tightening budget. We have nothing bad to say about her 'old' organization it just no longer fit into my budget with all my increasing expenses/decreasing income and her expectations of her teenage years. We love/d the Starz! But she is now proudly part of the Crush.

and there is nothing wrong with that. Congratulate her on taking another step on figuring out what she wants in life. It will probably change 6 times between now and next spring, but she is making decisions.

You must know my daughter...lmao! I agree a teenage girls mind is ever changing! But I think this will be a good move especially since she isn't sure if she wants to play in college or not. She just LOVES to play. But wants to be a kid too.

DD has to move up to 18U and we also moved more south and west in Ohio. We met a team from the area we were moving to at nationals. We watched them play and thought it would work out, she tried out last week and was offered a place on the spot. Worked out great!

It's ok, it's been nearly three years since our DD decided as a college sophomore that she wanted to be a college student who could explore other extra-curricular activities, and I STILL sometimes cry when I think about that decision. But she was taking the ownership of her life that Bill referred to and it has worked out great for her. Heck, she still might return to the sport as a HS coach.

After almost 2 weeks of saying she's lost her passion for softball, she tried out for the only team she's really wanted to be on for 2 years, and made it! So with mixed emotions, she will be with a different team next year.

Nope. Now we're looking for a better place. Anybody looking for a 14U pitcher?

Assuming we're talking travel ball, and not rec. ball (and there IS a difference)...

One stage for Rec. teams:
1) Sign up and play. Roster spots are rotated to give equal play for all

Two stages for travel ball teams:
1) Try out and make the team; the only guarantee is a roster spot
2) EARN a starting position, which garners most (or all) of the playing time

For instance, a new pitcher could "make the team", but not necessarily get much circle time as the season wears on. She'll get a chance to prove herself, but after a few games, it's usually evident to all who the #1 is. The great thing about this "system" is that it closely resembles the college ball system, which travel ball is the prep for. It gets the kids into the mindset that they must work very hard for their playing time. When coaches start a rec. ball rotation, the quality players will start a mass exodus.

If you equate a "roster spot" with "playing time", you should probably stick with rec. ball, where playing time is doled out relatively equally. The bleed over of this mentality is slowly chipping away at the meaning of travel ball.

No, they will not have a team since coach (DH) decided not to coach anymore. She is now a proud Ohio Jaguar.
