Getting to be that time of year when both travel and school coaches start thinking about signs for the coming year. It's hard to believe but in the last 28 months since I started doing this, I will soon be processing my 200th order, which includes about 150 systems and well over 3,000 wristbands! :)

I don't make much on these, and donate some of what I make back to the Forum and Stay in Softball. Aside from keeping me involved in the game and talking with coaches, my goals are to make these systems affordable to teams that wouldn't otherwise be able to do so, to help coaches better employ game strategy and potentially give them an advantage over opponents who don't have them, to help players better understand the strategy of the game, and to get players used to them before they might see them at the upper levels.

If you're a coach who has ordered in the past and want to upgrade your system or get replacement wristbands, or if you're a coach who hasn't used them yet and wants more information or a quote, e-mail me at jffbaker3@gmail.com, or call me at (440)251-1584.

Just got an order for another D2 college team ... Coach JoeA, thanks for the referral! If you're a high school or travel coach that has seen or heard of these systems but are hesitant to make a change or think it would cost too much, send me a note or give me a call and I'll give you some info and discuss any concerns. I know other coaches will attest to the fact that I don't try to sell anything that they either won't be happy with or won't be well worth it. Most teams spend less than $125 and would actually be hard-pressed to just get the wristbands themselves on their own for much less than that, let alone the system with 3 sets of signs. I know last February and March were my busiest months ever, but I can usually turn these around and have them out to you inside of a week. Make your signs a competitive advantage instead of a problem area!

Jeff does a great job with these systems. He is prompt in delivery and easy to work with. Anyone on the fence should use them. There is no negatives I can think of.

He even did a partial order of the bands to replace ones that were lost. No attempt to upsell to buy a whole new signal system.

I do recommend laminating them. Sweat and rain can cause some smearing.

I want to take a minute to thank Jeff for his excellent service and help with my wrist bands. I have to say they work great and I would recommend if you want to use wrist bands he is the man. Thanks again Jeff

Jeff I have used my own wrist band program since out 9u season with our '04 due to the girls missing signs. A lot of teams made fun of us for using them and now a lot of those teams are using them. This year we have even incorporated our pitching signals for our pitchers and catchers. Several of our teams have followed my teams lead in switching to the wristband system. I would have to say the wristband system is great for teams! If I would t of came up with my own system I would definitely purchase your system based on all the positive feedback I have read about your system. Maybe you and I could talk and you could take a look at the system I run and vise versa.

Kaos ... would love to talk with you sometime. I think that since I've been doing this I've learned a lot from talking to coaches, and like to think some of them have learned some things from me as well re: game strategy and the effective use of signals. I definitely have used what I have learned from talking with others to try to improve my system. But regardless of whose/what system you use, it's hard for me to understand sometimes why even more teams don't do them, even though the use has grown a lot. Sometimes I hear cost used as a reason, until I tell them what their system will cost. When I first "created" my own system, I spent way too much on the wristbands and my original premise when I first posted here to offer to do them for other teams was that if I could buy the wristbands in bulk, that I could actually provide a full system to the team cheaper than if they went out and bought their own wristbands and did it themselves. I now have about a half dozen colleges using my system, so I must be doing something right.

While a coach's success is going to be much more dependent on how well they teach their players on the fundamentals of the game, I believe that the effective use of signals is part of this and it's a coach's job to do everything he or she can do to put their team in a position to play well. PM me Kaos and perhaps we can find a time to talk some this weekend, and thanks for the note!

Jeff

Jeff, what kind of feedback do you get for this system for calling pitches? From an outsider looking in it seems like it takes a long time for the pitcher to decipher the call then start her pitch. Have you sold many of these?

Dave ... I have probably done about 30 or so pitch-calling systems so far, compared to maybe 150 offensive systems. I always be sure to talk to coaches about the pros and cons of using a wristband system for calling pitches, and I have a recommended alternative to one of the cons. I am personally not a big fan of youth pitchers having to look at a wristband to know what pitch to throw. While I have some worry that it could slow down the game (there's absolutely no reason why a good offensive system should), I am more concerned about messing up her rhythm. Obviously lots of college teams do this so it can be done, and I've had some youth coaches do it and be happy with it once the pitchers get used to it. But assuming that the coach is calling the signs and that most pitch-calling signs are stolen between the coach and the catcher, my recommendation is that the catcher wear the wristband only for pitch-calls, get the sign from the coach as always, and then "translate" it for the pitcher to a traditional sign (e.g., one number for pitch, one for location). This is what most of the teams end up doing.

Thanks, Jeff. I like the idea for keeping the pitches called more hidden just wasn't sure how popular it was. I also like the idea of just the catcher having the wristband.

This was our first weekend using Jeff's system and our girls exceeded our expectations 10 fold. A little background, we received our wristbands 2 weeks ago, had the girls wear them in 1 practice and then sent pitchers and catchers home with them to study. Our system is not a simple one, we operate almost 100% from the wristband both offensively and defensively. This system is very user friendly and the girls performance showed immediate improvement. I would recommend this system to anyone looking, age is not a huge factor either as we are an all 04' birthdate team.
Thanks Jeff!

I recently ordered Jeff's wristband signal system, and it is everything I expected it to be, and more. His customer service and responsiveness to calls, texts, and emails were prompt. I can't wait to usse it this week.
Thanks Jeff

ENDORSEMENT.....

Hi Im HITTER23, I'm a fastpitch softball coach and OFC personality, I recommend the (posing my wrist) "Coachjwb Wristband signal system". Before, we had dropped or missed signals during a game but not now with our (posing my wrist) "Coachjwb Wristband signal system". Now we dont miss a sign... So if youre having trouble getting your point across to your team, rush out and get yourself a (posing my wrist) "Coachjwb Wristband signal system" while supplies last at a major sports retail store near you. (not really, PM him here)

Dont leave the dugout without it........

Still doing these systems if you want to get a head start on next year's team. Have done over 200 systems now in the last 3 years. Customized to the signs you use and at a very reasonable price ... I've been able to do many full systems including the wristbands at a price lower than some teams have paid for just the wristbands themselves. PM me here or e-mail me at jffbaker3@gmail.com for more info.

After considering for a short time getting out of the wristband system business/hobby, I decided to stay with it. There's definitely a need for systems that a coach/team can get quickly and inexpensively, and I decided it might be a good hobby for me to do some day down the road when I decide to retire. In the past week, I've got 7-8 serious inquiries and so I am re-ordering wristbands and starting to crank them out again. If you're interested, just PM or e-mail me. If you need any "references, I've got about 100 of them here in the Softball Zone and that includes about a half dozen college coaches. :)

I was watching the 12u LLWS Championship last night. The Texas team was using a wrist band system. It's cool to see that different teams across the US are utilizing this type of communication on the field! They mic the coaches at that tournament and some of what he was saying to the players was audible on television. I could tell just in his communication with the players during the game, he was a very innovative and encouraging coach, doesn't surprise me his team had a wrist band system.

I was explaining how the systems work to my sister, who has been out of softball a few years:p, she really thought it was a great idea.
