My best memory of 2010 is watching our dd, after struggling through injuries during tryout season, get one last chance with the team she really, really wanted to play for and get the offer. And then, in the last fall tournament, get called in to relieve when the best pitcher got hurt, and she slammed the door on the other team, while going 2 for 2 with a couple rbi's.

just a few that come to mind:

Glen widener getting the National Guard to move their Lasers White game from the back field to the main complex and thereby taking the entire college coaches by limo..yuk yuk yuk

meeting Scott twice this season, beating his team twice even after that gangly short stop was clearly safe twice, and my kid giving Scott the business at Findlay and Dumpke park.

Having a beer at that same Dumpke park and a plate of chili cheese fries and almost passing out

talking with my Maddog second family contingent!

Getting ridiculed by an Ohio Ice parent in the bathroom at Shreve

laughing at dad attire and being ridiculed by coach Murph at Miami of Ohio camp

that catcher's arm from the Heart of Ohio Explosion, after picking off one of our girls at second TWICE the girls never lead off again.

Little Statman chatting up the Miami of Ohio assistants at Stingrays during the rain out and offering his opinion on using tarps

sleeping in wgman's basement!

back zits

driving past the park attendant at GAPSS without paying (but i did go back)

NOT going to nationals

the crooked base line/homeplate at Ft Wayne and getting destroyed by a pubescent 13u team

teasing BA about his pink, Dragon-esque socks

NOT meeting Man dan, yuk yuk yuk

Rob Wear's congrats and skills-for-life before the game towards the other team that turn dastardly when they are down by a run in the last inning with one out

looking for a working bathroom when leaving Dumpke park, i think i ended up in Kentucky. staman in kentucky=scary

realizing Ft Wayne homerdome has wireless internet access (looking at YOU, Spano!)

getting blown away while cooking brats and steaks outside the hotel in Compuware, then bringing the grill inside and eating our roasted corn in the staircase. How did i not set off a fire alarm?

finding out our first baseman's dad also went on the Emmaus walk many years ago. God always places cool people in your path

Blowing up the email when the school ball coach called for us to fill out a survey on this upcoming year's proposed increases after the levy didn't pass (okay, maybe not the most positive memory, but one nonetheless)

almost setting Pick central concession stand on fire after brat grease flare-up (noticing a trend?)

my little DD becoming potty trained in time for softball season to begin, which meant she wanted to visit each and every bathroom at every single tourney

My best memory has to be the 16U ASA Nationals with the Lasers White girls, they just kept coming back and finding ways to win on the way to a 9th place finish. I think there are 12 families that would have this as their best memory

Number two is reading statmans posts(and making his list) of what he learned after each week end last summer.

First was the week we spent at USA/ASA Nationals in Moline, IL. It was awesome watching our girls go 5-2 and beat teams from Cali, Texas, and Georgia as well as watching and rooting for Doom 95 and the other Ohio teams. My DD still makes fun of me because I thought it was so cool to say "we play the winner of the Corona Angels vs whoever game" and yes they sent us home but it was still cool to play them.

Second was tryouts as we added three very talented players and awesome families.

a few...dd played second base for her team this past year...West Liberty Early Bird, playing a VERY tough Danger 12U (97 team) and my daughter diving/catching TWO bunts made by Danger, one right by the homeplate, and throwing 2 more girls out at 1st base on short bunts. They stopped bunting after that lol.

#2 - dd subbing in for another 12U Hawks team in a Harrison tourney, playing second base, and had one inning with all three outs...diving catch on a hard hit line drive, another dive/roll up to her butt and flipped the ball to the first baseman, and a fly ball caught.

Last - Playing in Lucasville in June, shortstop sprints and fields a nice hard shot, flips to to my dd running to second base, dd steps on second and fires the ball to our first baseman for a 6-4-3 double play! It was BEAUTIFUL, perfectly executed by all three players, and the best thing...those same 3 girls almost did it again 3 more times during the 2010 season!!! Everyone knows that double play is VERY difficult in girls fastpitch with the bases being as close as they are, and they were THRILLED to have been a part of that play.

As a Dad my best memory is: July 16th 10u Nationals Tune Up playing PC Pride(mich) in pool play game. Tied up, time is up, finish the inning. We are home team. Bases loaded, two outs and my lefty slapper dd is up. All game she has slapped or dragged her way on base. No one thinks she can hit away. Infield is in, outfield is cheating up on edge of dirt. She works count to full, base runners are running on the pitch. She hits line drive up the middle just to left side of 2nd base past CF. WALK OFF SINGLE. We win 6-5 against a very good PC Pride 10u team who went on to finish 3rd at 10u USSSA World Series.

The entire week at the 10U ASA/USA Nationals in Chattanooga. Just seeing the talent of 10U players from all over the US was pretty cool. Girls down there almost 6 feet tall. Playing teams from GA, IL, CA and TN. Umpiring a friendly with the SoCal Jynx in 104 degrees and they looked like they could play 3 that day no problem. Seeing that teams from the Midwest CAN play with teams from any where! Cannot wait to do it again.

Reading these, and remembered the rarest of plays.

At the All-Sanctioned World Series. First innnig, my youngest playing 3rd caught a line drive. Stepped on the bag for the 2nd out, then fired to 1st for the trifecta. Unfortunately we still lost the game.

There are soo many great ones, but I think the one that stands out the most for me was NLI day watching my daughter sign her letter of intent, and then turning ro me and saying " I couldn't have gotten here without your's and mom's help. Thank You!" Nice to see the culmination of all the hard work and thousands of miles! The smile was as the commercial says, "Priceless".

Hitting her first HR of the Season after a loooong slump and then her signing her NLI.
It is a great feeling to be wanted at the next level.

Wow! This sounds almost exactly like mine!!!

After 2 seasons where she missed out on try-outs for teams because of injuries, she finally made the team she's always wanted to play for even though she's the oldest on the team. I've never seen her so happy and she loves the group of girls that she'll be playing with this summer.

Probably the 2nd was when (this will sound mean)she struck out someone who used to be her best friend, several times in one game. This particular team was actually pretty catty towards her as they knew she tried out for them, but was injured and didn't make it. DD's team lost the game, but kept it competitive and those strikeouts were sweet to her.

My best fastpitch memory from 2010 is this. Let me set the stage, Lasers White is playing the California Cruisers in the ASA Nationals in College Station. I am passing out profiles for the Lasers and there are tons of college coaches. A couple coaches from a California college were sitting in our bleachers with the California Cruisers profiles, so I offer ours. They looked at me like I was an absolute idiot the kind of chuckled and said no thanks. The game starts, Lasers are winning for most of the game then the Cruisers won it at the end on an error/potential bad call. Here's the best part, middle of the game Emma Johnson came in for the Lasers and must have struck 6 out of the first 7 girls she faced out. I mean, she dominated! You should've seen the faces of the coaches that refused our team profiles. Looking at Emma sit down their wish list of players bham, bham, bham! They turned and looked at me, and I gave them the same smirk they gave me when they refused our profiles! They were scrambling and squirming...it was a "priceless" moment.

I'm telling you this, on the national stage last year at College Station our Ohio girls looked good. Real good! It was great to be a part of a great Lasers run, but all the other Ohio teams made great showings. Ohio was proudly represented.

Best memory of my DD was watching her run back tracking a ball to the temporary fence in center field, and falling over the fence backward catching the ball that would have been an over the fence grand slam.
Best team memory was in Cleveland watching DD's team win 5 back to back games, with no breaks between them, to get to the championship game. We also only had nine players that weekend. DD was hot that tournament reaching base by a hit or a walk every at bat but one. Unfortunately, ended up co-champions due to game being called due to weather.

I have thought about this one before I decided to post. My favorite moment had to be night game at 14u ASA states against the Valley Extreme Heaverly. They had our number previously. But that night my dd in the circle was on a mission and winning that game sparked a great run and we ultimately found ourselves in the championship. Along the way we picked up some great wins including a shut out victory against the Doom 95 and a hard fought win over the Laser Gold. I mention these teams because I have great respect for them and that weekend was awesome. The next best moment was actually a very respectable loss to the national champion Power Surge 96 from San Diego. DD racked up 11 k's in a 3-0 loss. Their coach said that was one of lowest scoring games his team had played all year, especially against a 13u team.

we were playing in our 3rd game in an ISA tourney in Pigeon Forge... Other team hit a ball, runners advanced and our girls decided to see how far a ball can roll along a fence which allowed a play at home. Girl slides feet first and collides with our catcher. It is undetermined whether she caught her cleat on the plate or catchers shin guard but the poor girl screamed to noooo end. I rushed out and helped her? cut off her shin protector (like a socquer shin guard) and her shin was shattered! I can recall her shin bones nearly pushing through her skin and long socks. A weak stomach would have had a very hard time with this injury. We carried her into the back of a Chevy Blazer and off they went. About 5 days passed and the mom got my email via our website and gave us an update. Needless to say we were shocked when we got this message?

Her Original contact email to me?
Hello from mother of #14 on Morristown Scorpios located in TN. I want to send out a Tremendous thank you to all the coaches and team members who helped my daughter on sunday. She was the girl injured sliding into home. She has a broken fibia, tibia, and 2 breaks in her left ankle and will undergo surgery to have screws put into her ankle on Wednesday..... and aside from that she is doing well. I am extremely grateful for your help in getting her stable. She is also very appreciative. Your girls played some great ball! and you all should be very proud! BEST OF LUCK to you all!

Her Response to my email replying to her contact email?

Thank you all for your prayers. I couldn't stop wondering how I could reach you all to tell you thanks... Internet is a wonderful thing sometimes. You all have an awesome site.

Lexie doesn't recall ever hitting anything but remembers seeing the catcher reaching out to make the catch then seeing the plate and then a foot came down and then she says she blacked out. I was behind my camera filming and low and behold the battery died as she started to slide, therefore i missed it by messing with the camera. A Couple other parents have told me they weren't sure what happened either all they saw was that the 2 girls just collided hard.

I sure hope that your catcher doesn't feel it is her fault! It was a freak accident. And accidents will happen. I've seen too many and every time my heart goes out to not only the injured child but just as much to the child not injured.

This is Lexie's 1st "break" injury she's taken hits to face, shins, hips, ribs, etc... and she is determined to be back as soon as she can. The Doctor and Surgeon both claim she has common injuries and they are nothing that will keep her from coming back if she wants to play. I honestly think she'll be ready far faster than I will be.

But most of all I do truly appreciate everything everyone did for her Sunday I know other parents on our team also commented on how you all really stepped in to make sure everything was ok. It really means the world to us. You have no idea. Our actually Coach was not even there at the tournament on Sunday but he will be with her in surgery tomorrow, as he is also the surgical nurse.

May your girls continue to strive to be their personal best....stay safe... and enjoy playing the game!
Have an awesome season!

Our Reaction to this situation?
So, we felt compelled (my team and Kavin?s team who was there rooting us on and helped us carry her off the field) to put a CD of songs together and mail them to her. We sent her 2 CD?s full of music. It was such a good feeling to do this for this young girl.

Her response after getting the music CD?s from Static 98 and Static 97 teams?
Hey this is Lexie WXYZABC from the Morristown Scorpions. I received your package and I am very thankful for it. I love the CD and the songs on it. It was nice for each of the girls to pick one. I will pass the other one on the Camern ABC123CS. BTW she is doing great, too. Thank you for caring so much about my leg. Thank you and wish you all the very best : ].

This girl Camern had been injured while playing Kavin?s team. Got hit in the mouth and several teeth knocked out. Tough weekend for their team to say the least.

This was 1 of 2 very memorable moments for our 2010 season.

I have a few:

1st - Getting to coach my daughter her last 2 seasons of travel ball. Watching her develop into a VERY good softball player and a beautiful young woman.

2nd - Watching my daughter go through the recruiting process and end up going to the school that was 10 minutes from home! The best thing about that is my wife and I will get to see her play! Go Ashland University!!!

3rd - Watching every game of her 2010 High School Season at Hillsdale and watching her get the first hit, steal and run of the state final game and also catching the final out of the Div 4 OHSAA State Championship... Hillsdale 2 - Liberty 1

My wife passed away in 2010 and the most touching memory I have of the 2010 season is a tree being planted and a memorial stone placed at our HS field in her honor.
