I enjoying watching the 10u play, it’s a lot of fun. But watching the parents of the 10U and 8 under girls softball teams is more fun then a barrow of monkeys.

I actually had a 10 under parent tell me one time that her daughter already had offers from D1 school and one school was talking full ride.

i've been standing on the field, coaching 3b, listening to a mom telling all in earshot about big SEC is recruiting her DD as a pitcher. At a little tiny tourney in OH. With a girl that just served up my team like 9 runs in 2 innings and just got pulled from the game, top speed maybe 50mph. yeah, the BS was strong with that one.

I've experienced much the same over the years. I still remember a 12u program that had recruited a pitcher from another area for summer travel ball. She was a head taller than the other girls and sported at least an additional 40 lbs over them. You know the type. Her parents were as you described. I'm sure they couldn't afford to be doing the travel scene but because this kid was throwing strikes and so intimidating in the circle, some parents had chipped in to pay the fees and literally had given the parents travel money. They paid for any rooming when out of town and I'm pretty sure their restaurant tabs were being picked up as well. They spent all their time near the dugout bragging about her options for college ball during the game and would find a place away from the group to chain-smoke cigarettes and drink with a couple of the parents that kept fueling the fire. 2 years later, this kid was lost in the sea of talent that caught up and surpassed this one-dimensional pitcher still throwing the same speed, belt-high over the middle of the plate. She never developed. She never grew as a player. And the parents left, never to be heard of again.

I envision this same family is still together in a faraway place, 20 years later she's still playing 12u-----still throwing the same. The only difference is she's smoking and drinking with her parents between games and her parents have aged a 100 years and with a chronic cough................
