This was a couple of years ago. I’ve worked with two of these umpires, and actually worked a game with the plate umpire shortly after this. So, I had a chance to quiz him about this call.
The runner was obstructed between third and home. By rule, she can’t be put out between third and home. Next, the umpires have to decide if they think the runner would have scored, without the obstruction, or not. If yes, then award home plate. If no, then place the runner back on third base.
Replays I saw made me think that I would have put her back on third. But the umpire who was there was adamant that they judged she would have safely reached home. If that’s their judgment, then awarding home is 100% correct.
