anyone able to help with some questions about transferring in college? What are the rules when transferring from an NAIA school? when is the appropriate time to contact other coaches?

This is true of most of NAIA. That's how it earned the nickname "The Wild West of Softball." This is not meant to be disparaging of the NAIA. It's just that many times it's very confusing to navigate and figure out the rules of recruiting, transfer portal, etc.

If your DD is going to transfer, does she know where she'd like to transfer to? If so, is contacting the coaching staff of the new school and asking for help in navigating the transfer portal an option?

Yes, that’s an option. Just wasn’t sure if appropriate to contact them being “in season”.

You said she is red shirted correct? I see no reason why the coaching staff couldn't or wouldn't help in this situation. I would think that both parties would want to keep it under the radar for obvious reasons until the actual intentions became apparent once your DD entered the transfer portal.

That said, should word leak out for whatever reason, there could be consequences. Just make sure your DD is closed mouthed and doesn't breathe a word to anyone...and I mean ANYONE other than the coaching staff of the school she wishes to transfer to. Of course, you're hoping the upcoming staff is as closed mouth as your DD but I can see no upside to them yelling from the rooftops that she's coming their way either.
