i was talking with my wife yesterday about the good ol days of softball and traveling every weekend all over the country and how much money we spent over the years.... bats were cheaper (and didnt seem to break as much) gas was cheaper, food was cheaper, hotels were cheaper, parking and entry fees were cheaper, (i saw these fees almost dbl my last year coaching.) EVERYTHING was cheaper..... now it is crazier than ever.

How are you surviving in this crazy economy? what are some tips you can share with others that help you survive this craziness without losing your house?

sleeping in your car? drive 4 hours in the morning to the tourney instead of a hotel stay, PeanutButter and jelly sandwiches all weekend long? I mean, i dont eat fast food but 1 meal has to be about $10 for 1 person right?

the simple answer is --- don't play travel ball. WAIT! WHAT?!?!

oh lets see how many peoples head explode from this comment. ;)

im glad im not coaching anymore. I coach my grandkids in tee ball and coach pitch now and im 10 mins from the park. I really dont see how people can afford to do it to be honest.

Chose a team that is going to play more local events so your travel is less, but my girl doesn't have college aspirations so this fits in with her goals. Pack a cooler for lunch/snacks so you only have 1 meal to buy. We use the big tournament (in FL) as our family vacation for the year-but we've always done it that way so it's just part of our family plan. We're getting close to the END, so we just savor every event because we've already been through 2 older daughters playing and the end comes sooner than you think. Enjoy your seasons!
