That mom story about not being allowed to bunt with two strikes reminded me of one of my players from my 12U rec coach days. We had been working on bunting pretty heavily one week, and one of my players fell in love with the concept. She was a catcher, not particularly fast, with an interesting concept of the strike zone. Anyway, she came up with the bases loaded in a tight game with a couple outs, and decided to lay one down. It was one of those "No, no, no. Yes yes yes, run run run" coaching yells. It turns out the 3rd baseman, pitcher and catcher had absolutely no idea what to do, while our runners were circling the bases. The batter had such a great grin when she reached first base, I had to start laughing. "Was that a good bunt, Coach" she asked. I could barely get out, "Oh yeah, a fantastic bunt."
