What makes a good coach?

Honestly I think 1st and foremost if you want kids to give full effort, it's enthusiasm. If your excited about being there, they will be excited to be there.

Next common sense: Good old fashioned common sense. If your fixing throwing mechanics or working on them don't make everybody do 10 push ups when a ball hits the wall or they will just go back to throwing the way they are comfortable with. Why work on Kobata pivots at 10u, if your planning on getting the out @ 1st most plays.

Have a philosophy---How do plan on winning games with the team you have? Design your practices to fit that.

Enthusiasm --players/Parents excited, coach wanting to become better.
Common sense--I mean really, this shouldn't be on but it is.
Philosphy--I think this and enthusiasm is what inspires coaches to get better, learn new techniques and strategies.

As a softball coach, there are several things you can do to be effective in your role. First and foremost, it's important to have a strong understanding of the sport. This means knowing the rules, strategies, and techniques so that you can effectively teach them to your players.
Another key aspect of coaching is building positive relationships with your players. This means taking an interest in their lives off the field, providing positive feedback and encouragement, and being a good listener.
When it comes to providing feedback to your players, it's important to be constructive in your criticism. Acknowledge their strengths and accomplishments while also pointing out areas where they can improve.
Setting goals is another important part of coaching. Work with your players to set both short-term and long-term goals, and provide support and guidance as they work towards achieving them.
Effective communication is also crucial in coaching. Be clear and concise when giving instructions, and encourage your players to ask questions and seek clarification when needed.
Finally, as a coach, it's important to be passionate and committed to the sport and to your players. Show your players that you care about their development both on and off the field, and set a positive example for them to follow. It is also important to be able to offer alternatives in games for children. It is important to find a reliable coaching service for children and their games

I tell parents to look for a coach who your child will learn and grow from, but also will set a proper example - code of conduct, if you will. We play sports to learn and prepare us for life, so I am always asking "Am leading or setting a good example?". My coaching style has "evolved" over the years from my past mistakes and I don't claim to know everything or be the "perfect coach" for all players - I am not everyone's "cup of tea" and I am fine with that, but I am seeking to improve and refine myself.
