I can see both sides of this. The Ice not only beat them in pool play they run ruled them. Have to give credit to the dog's for doing well on elimination day. The Ice was the only team that was undefeated the entire weekend. Hard for both sides.

There are those that stand up for what they believe in and take what they earn and there's those that stand on the sideline for hand outs.

Last week we declined a coin flip to determine the tournament runner-up. The 14U Ashland Blaze had beaten us in pool play on Saturday. The Sunday semi-final rematch game was rained out. Why would we decline the coin flip, it was the right thing to do, they were the better team that weekend. The Ohio Ice ? Silver will NEVER take or except anything that is unearned. These 12 girls work hard for every win they achieve, always bypass the easy way out and play every minute to it?s fullest.

This game is more than learning to play softball; it?s about building strength, togetherness, putting your teammates before yourself and providing learning experiences for the girls that will help them become successful in life.

We strive to work harder than the next person, stand up for what we believe in, voicing our opinion no matter how harsh the message may be, and never settle for second best, that was yesterdays message. If stating the facts; undefeated, beating the DD?s in pool play 9-1, and voicing the opinion of the team to the TD and in front of the opposing team is something to be ashamed of, well so be it. We're raising leaders not followers.

So did you take the trophies after winning the coin toss or not?

I dont agree with what you are teaching those girls when it comes to sportsmanship, kindness, togetherness and just letting girls at this age enjoy the game and have fun at what they enjoy.

again you said it yourself POOOOOL PLAY so you need to get off your high horse and I hope the girls on our team grow up to be great women , great leaders ,hard workers and great friends to others and enjoy playing what they love the game of SOFTBALL. And i appreciate and respect the way our coaches teach our girls all the things above and try to exemplify these things in the way they carey themselves.

oh yeh and just remember anyone can be beaten on any given day . Good Luck 12u ice and I hope you have a fun, enjoyable season.

Our 1st year with the team and I have to say my daughter is having fun and have learned to win with dignity and to take our loss without shame. I am glad my daughter is coached by Bill and his crew. ;D ;D ;D
Hopefully for many more years. ;) ;)

You will not find a team with more togetherness than Ice Silver.
Sportsmanship is easy when you think you've won but is shown during your losses (declining coin flip with Ashland Blaze--who deserved it)
Kindness--see above
Loyalty--standing up for your team and what you believe (being a leader and not follower)

Oh well, I hope it stops raining and we can just play in the future then we won't have this nonsense because I'm sure Diamond Dogs would want to win it on the field rather then through a coin flip, as would Ice.

we played them twice in Massillon, pool play and the championship. We didn't see anything like what people are saying on here about poor sportsmanship and such. They seem like a very good solid team, who enjoy playing, and the coaches seemed very warm as well. By no means am I an expert on the Ohio Ice, but usually if a team is like what people describe here it usually comes out all the time. Sorry, but we didn't see anything like this at Massillon.

You are exactly right krm0503. We (Lasers Gold 11u) have been beat by the Ice 3 times now... and have never witnessed poor sportsmanship. The Ice are a great group of girls.... and we love to play them. Getting beat by that kind of team will only get us closer to our goals for next year. I would love to have another shot at Diamond Dogs, (we had one bad defensive inning, that we could not dig ourselves out of) with our full roster. The Ice beat us in Massillon with a full roster, we have yet to face the Diamond Dogs with all 11 of our girls. (our #1 pitcher) Great games this weekend Ice, I am glad we got to play you twice....thanks for a great bracket game.

we're going to Ponys. Originally wanted to go to NSA since we had qualified way back in October. But after a parents/coaches meeting it was decided, by a very small margin, to go the Pony route since it can be commutable daily by most of our families. Personally, I'd have rather gone the NSA route since its right there in Columbus, but I'm only 1 vote. We'd love to get to play the Ice again. Who wins at 5:30 am is skewed for sure. Plus, it looks like the Ice have been on a tear lately and our girls playing teams like that, win or lose, can only help them also. Maybe we can setup a scrimmage for the fall. We're hoping to return the vast majority of our team for 2009 14u. Or maybe, we can enter a fall tourney together. We'll keep in touch for sure.

playing the lasers gold at 330 a.m and then the furies at 530 a.m. really kick started our season off in a positive direction. the girls grew up that day... but .... we dont ever want to play when the sun is coming up again ! lol ... good luck at ponies , you guys should do well there......

Why don't we all just save the gas and hotel money and start tossing coins now to decide NSA Nationals.

I hate the whole coin toss issue and when I tell people they decide some tournaments that way they can't believe it.

Freeze, r.i.p. BO???? Come onnnn
