Unfortunately, GAPSS 2020 is being canceled due to COVID-19 related concerns.

While GAPSS is an independently run tournament, it exists solely for the fundraising benefit of the 4 Olentangy School District high school softball programs. As such, the tournament is fully reliant on access to school facilities, support from the school district personnel, and access to community volunteers. While there are a wide variety of opinions as to risks and concerns COVID-19 poses by holding the tournament, ultimately the full support of everyone involved is required for it to be a success - which unfortunately we did not fully have.

Unfortunately if some events doesnt occur this year, this will be the undoing , there are a ton of moving parts required to all work together to make these events happen. Any break in the chain and it goes under. Youre tournament is a mainstay, see you next year....

Did the schools not allow access to fields? So many school administrators don't fully understand what they are able to do due to the unfortunate misinformation put out loudly by OHSAA on 4/30, which they walked back quietly on 5/8 and 5/15. Just curious is this is more fallout from that OHSAA grievous error.

Sonic - because I was curious, I double checked and re-read the email that I have received from my local school district (lakota - Div 1 school near Cincy). email dated 6 Apr, and I quote "school facilities : During this Virtual learning time, ALL school facilities are closed to athletes, school employees and the public..." There was also a separate section that referenced "No-Contact Period" which states" The current OHSAA issued 'No-contact period' will continue as long as we are doing virtual learning. To better explain what this means 1) no in-person contact between coach and athlete 2) no in-person contact between teammates. 3) no captain led workouts or training 4) coaches can communicate electronically with players.

pretty explicit instructions. maybe wrong from school AD, maybe wrong from OHSAA., etc. regardless very large school district basically closed all their facilities until yesterday.
