Carol - We'll let you know how it is. We had this one circled on our schedule list from the start. We have also heard wonderful things about it, and hope they all come true.

We will have Schmidt Hall available, once again this year, for all teams and coaches to escape the heat throughout the tournament. Schmidt Hall is an air conditioned facility offering tables, chairs, and free refreshments from the firefighters. There is also plenty of shade throughout the park!

With more teams than ever this year, am I correct to assume that play will start during the morning or afternoon of Friday July 1? I am trying to coordinate hotels/check in dates for our parents so any information would be greatly appreciated!

Friday is the 1st, not the 3rd. :) I'd hate to see you get the reservations for the wrong days.

Thanks! There are some solid teams/organizations represented, so we're looking forward to the competition as well as the atmosphere. Have heard nothing but raves about this tourney for the past 3-4 years, and as it has grown by about 15+ teams this year, apparently others feel the same way. Good luck to you guys this season, Black has another tough team this year as always!

Below is a copy of the TOURNAMENT INFO PACKET

Coaches,

I want to be the first to welcome you to the 2011 Fire in the Sky tournament and let you know how excited we are for this year! We have expanded to our biggest tournament ever and as you know, we have made a commitment to constantly improving our tourney to make it one of the best around. We put together this packet to help inform you on all that we have going on this year, as well as some new additions that we have made. Hopefully, this will help answer any questions you may have. We have expanded our tournament size to 44 teams this year and added an extra field. Please be sure to check out some of the changes that have been made to the time schedule this year, as well as our hospitality room. We are eager to see teams from WV, PA, KY and OH all competing in this great town. If you have questions about the area, tournament, hotels, dining or anything else, please ask me. I want this to be a great experience for you and your team!

Good Luck this Season!

Tournament Structure
44 teams will be divided up into 11 pools of 4 teams. All pools will be determined by blind draw. Play begins at 8am on Friday morning and will continue until Saturday early afternoon. Each team will play the other 3 teams in their pool to determine their seed for the single elimination tournament that begins Saturday afternoon. Runs for and runs against will be recorded from each pool play game and tallied for use as a tie-breaker should teams finish with the same record. The first tie-breaker will be least amount of runs against, and then most runs for.
All teams will make the single elimination tournament. A copy of the bracket will be distributed before the tournament begins. Please be advised that Single elimination tournament begins Saturday afternoon. Some teams will be eliminated before Sunday. Winner of the single elimination tournament will be awarded a Class A bid to the ASA Eastern Nationals. Second place will be awarded a Class B bid to the ASA Eastern Nationals.

Tentative Schedule
This year pool play is set to begin on the morning of Friday, July 1st and continue until Saturday afternoon. Each team will play two pool games on Friday and one pool game on Saturday afternoon. Saturday afternoon the first round of the single elimination tournament will begin. The rest of the tournament will continue Sunday morning at 8am and will finish Sunday night leading up to the Orrville Firefighter?s Association Fireworks Show at approximately 10:15pm.

Rain Delays
Rain delays will be called in to the coaches immediately. If you have any questions about the weather and are unsure please contact the TD Joe Horn or Chris Bishop with the phone numbers provided. Delays will be dealt with on a situational basis and coaches will be informed promptly.

Cancelled Game Policy
If a game is cancelled and not played for any reason a percent of the entry fee will be refunded for each of the 4 guaranteed games that are missed.

Registration Tent
Coaches will need to check in at the registration tent as soon as they arrive on Friday. The tent will be located just behind (north side) the Front Diamond and will be available throughout the tournament to answer any questions, pick up brackets and post all results.
When checking in you will need to:
Provide your teams ASA# (#?s are available for purchase if your team doesn?t have one already).
Provide a contact number where a coach or team manager can be reached for the entire tournament (for updates on bracket seeding, weather, ect?).
Pay any unpaid balances.
Verify your team?s roster.
Pick up your players? goodie bags.

Hospitality Building
Similar to last year, we are providing a hospitality building for all the teams to eat and get out of the sun. All teams will be allowed to store food in the kitchen, have access to refrigerators and use the dining area to eat as a team. We will provide a host to watch over the building and answer any questions, as well as provide tourist information given by the Wayne County Visitors Bureau. The Hospitality Building will be on a ?first come, first serve? basis. Please allow only immediate members of the team into the building, as there is limited space. The elderly and team parents will be allowed in the Hospitality Building as an opportunity to get out of the heat or set up meals.

Swimming

Orr Pool is located directly behind the Front diamond at Orr Park. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Children under 3 years old are allowed free into the wading pool. Senior citizens with a Golden Buckeye card are eligible for half price pool passes. The tentative hours of the Orr Pool are from 12pm-9pm.

Ohio Fastpitch Connection
The OFC website will be used to post game scores immediately after they are finished. The website is available to anyone and can be accessed at www.game-ex.com.

Parking
Parking in the park is limited during the tournament due to the Independence Day Festival and fireworks show. Parking lots can be found on the east side of Elm Street by the front diamond and by the back diamond. The church diamond will have its own parking lot located directly south of the field. If additional parking is necessary the Orrville High School parking lot is located a couple of blocks north of the park off of Ella Street. We suggest parking your cars there on Sunday night if you plan on staying for the fireworks show. Because so many people attend this show, exiting the city can take some time.

That is an understatement. :D. Even our back road ways are filled.

In all honesty, I'd highly recommend staying for the show. You won't find another specular show from a small town. The firefighters know how to put on a display. The show is awesome.

Please follow the link for our pool play and tournament schedules.
Please note we have sponsors for our Front and Back diamond and they will be called CenturyLink and Serpentini Field respectively. To help clarify the single elimination bracket it begins early Saturday afternoon. The letter the pool and the # represents the place the team finishes in the pool after pool play.

Less than 2 weeks away! See you soon!
