As a warm up opportunity for the quickly approaching outdoor season, Finesse 05' jumped in a good Friday tournament hosted at the Legacy Dome in Brighton, MI on 4-14-17. It has been my experience, every so often a team will have a weekend (or day) to forget and Finesse 05' experienced this on 4-14-17. It is fun to update our team profile here on Softball Zone with good news, but this entry is a painful one to organize. The day kicked off with a walk-off homerun loss and things progressively became worse as the day continued. Here are the results:
Finesse 05' v. Madness 11U = 5-3 loss
Finesse 05' v. Turnin 2 = 8-0 loss (this Turnin 2 team was legit)
Finesse 05' v. Madness 10U = 8-4 loss
Finesse 05' v. Fast Wizards Elite = 8-4 loss
Moving on, this past Friday will be considered a learning experience for both of players and coaches.

The Finesse 05' team made the trip to Marion on 4-22-17 and participated in the Softball Zone Futures Invitational. This is our 2nd year in a row of attending an event @ RVBFY on this weekend and during both visits we have been greeted with chilly temps for softball. Although, our 2017 visit seemed like tropical temps compared to our 2016 visit, holy cow it was cold in 2016. We entered the weekend with a skeleton roster and the weekend ended with about 8 1/2 able bodies. The 1/2 represents a player with only one good arm. #toughness Here are the results:

Our Saturday effort was not the greatest. The Indiana Dreams are really good and the Spirit, we should have beat them but the girls had some negative carry over from the Indiana Dreams beat down. Sunday brought a new day...the girls took care of business with the Rage and came from behind to beat the Pride. We then faced a familiar opponent in the Ohio Outlaws (aka Roadrunners 05'). The Outlaws are an athletic group and well coached but the girls seemed eager to compete which is great sign!

Finesse 05' is scheduled to host their annual friendly tournament tomorrow (5-6-17) in Holland, Ohio; sadly due to monsoon season here in northwest Ohio the event has been cancelled.

Finesse 05' will stay local this weekend and compete in the Wizards Rizing Starz Tournament hosted at Rolf Park in Maumee, Ohio. Our pool play scheduled has the girls playing Wizards Elite 04', Turnin 2 2022, and Northwest Sliderz 12U. It sounds like our roster will be completely healthy and ready to compete!! A change in the future, I am leaning towards highlighting impact performances from our roster during various tournaments in hopes of providing exposure to girls who are deserving. Players on our roster have dreams of playing softball at the college level, if sharing information about their performances within this forum could help, it is the least I can do! My plan is to highlight our key contributors from the plate, the circle, and overall defense.

Finesse 05' made the not so long trip to Rolf Park (Maumee, Ohio) this past weekend to participate in the Fast Wizard Rizing Starz Tournament. Unfortunately the tournament was rain shortened as we only completed one game and completed 2 innings of our 2nd game before mother nature interrupted things. Here is our only result....

This coming Memorial Day weekend the Finesse 05' squad will be making the trip to Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio and participate in the 2017 Firefighter's Memorial Tournament. This will be our 2nd entry into this tournament as the 2016 version was so well executed. The event seems to draw the attention of some elite squads and some of those squads landed in our pool. Our pool play schedule consists of Ohio Lightning Gold, NKY Bandits, and MV Express 04. Good luck to all teams and safe travels!

Just one of the many perks of being a member of the Finesse family.....yucky weather here in northwest Ohio today, we are scheduled for a team practice, instead of it being cancelled we are moving indoors and practicing at Total Sports - Rossford. The relationship between Finesse and Total Sports is a wonderful one!!

The Finesse 05' squad made a trip to Berliner Park in Columbus, Ohio over this past weekend and participated in the 2017 Firefighters Memorial. Mother nature played a role on Saturday and made for one long day. First game on Saturday was slated for 8:00am, team arrived for warm-up at 7:00am. Soon after our arrival we were alerted to a 2 hour delay. Maybe an hour later, game time was pushed back to 12:30pm. Some of the families returned to the hotel and some remained at the park. Around 10:30am or so we were told our first game would begin at 3:00pm. Thinking there were no lights on the fields we were scheduled for, thought we might get 2 games in, one right after another. After our 3:00pm game, we then learned our 2nd game of the day was slated for 7:20pm and then our 3rd game was set for 11:30pm. On the horizon was certainly an early game time for Sunday. I am sure the TD did his/her very best at getting the games in, but boy did it put the teams in pool G in a tough spot. Here are the results......

The Finesse 05' squad kept things pretty close to home this past weekend and participated in the 22nd Annual Preseason Classic @ Rolf Park in Maumee, Ohio. We jumped into this tournament a little late realizing we need some more time on the diamond as mother nature has played a role in a few of our events already this season. The girls continue to compete during each and every contest. We occasionally remind the girls (and parents) this 11U season was going to be a difficult one as we traditionally run into well oiled 12U squads. Here are the results.....

This past weekend was a tough weekend for the Finesse 05' team. Myself and the rest of the coaching staff had a pretty good idea one of these weekends we would feel the wrath of the 'odd year curse' and sure enough, the SGS Tune-Up was that weekend. Did we play really bad, not necessarily but we just did not play well enough to win a majority of our contests. From the weekend, a positive is a couple girls are starting to be more productive at the plate and the girls competed from start to finish in each of the 7 games. Here are the results.....

The Finesse 05' squad had a strong showing at the 5th Annual Tomahawk Toss ASA Eastern Qualifier in Wauseon, Ohio at the beautiful Biddle Park. If you have not visited Biddle Park be sure to put it on your tournament to do list! The girls battled it out all weekend and ended up earning the Championship and a bid to the ASA tournament. I doubt that we use the bid during our 11U campaign but it is nice to have earned. The results are as follows:

It is quickly approaching that time of year again and the Finesse Club will be hosting opportunities for your DD to showcase her abilities and possibly be selected to join on of our many wonderful Finesse rosters. Specifically, if your DD can bring the heat from the circle and is an 05' birthday, keep your eye on this profile and the Softball Zone master tryout list. The Finesse 05' squad is on the hunt for some top notch athletes in hopes of improving our depth as we gear up for a competitive 12U season. The Finesse 05' squad traveled to the north this past weekend and competed in the USSSA Michigan 11U State Tournament at the Canton (MI) Sports Complex. This was our first visit to the Canton Sports Complex and we found out it can handle a lot of water as mother nature opened up the flood gates on Friday. The fields were dry as a bone Saturday morning, much to our surprise. We did not walk away as champs but we were proud of our girls willingness to complete! Here are the results.....

Had a good turnout at the Finesse tryout last night in Toledo @ Erme Field. The interest in Finesse continues to grow and for good reason. Great leadership at the top (Tommie, Donnie, and Mike) does wonders in attracting great coaches and even better players! Next up the Wixom, MI Finesse tryouts slated for August 4, 5, and 6. The Finesse 05' - Henegar tryout season is complete!! Thank goodness....the coaching staff has been busy looking for those missing pieces to an already competitive lineup. In the end we had 3 roster spots to fill and they are filled. We added a power pitcher and two utility players. All three of these additions come with experience at the club softball level. We start fall practice this Saturday in preparation for a tough fall tournament schedule.

The 12U season for the Finesse 05' - Henegar squad officially kicked off this past weekend. Although we have one in a cast and one battling a flu bug the practice this past Saturday was time well spent. The new additions to the team seemed to fit right in and the returners seem hungry to improve upon a .500 record this past season.

The 2017/2018 season began this past Saturday as the Finesse 05' - Henegar squad entered the USSSA Smashing Pumpkin Tournament in Maumee, Ohio. This one day, 4 GG, event brought in a good pool of talented teams. Minus a couple of rocky innings the girls played some solid softball and here are the results:
