    USSSA MI Fall State Tournament in Canton, MI was a true test of toughness!! The Finesse 05' squad kick the day off with a 9:00am start time and lets just say we did not perform up to our potential. After a spirited chat after our first game and a brief break from the diamond, coaches were curious to see what type of team would return for our 12:00pm contest. Mother nature was not going to take it easy on anyone as the temperature ramped up to 90+ degrees with not a cloud in the sky the entire day. Lets just say the coaching staff was pleased with the team's response as they won three consecutive games and advanced to the Fall State Championship Game. The girls came up short in the championship game and finished the day as MI State runner-ups. Here are the results:
    Finesse 05' v. MI Legacy 05' Select - Thorington = 10-0 loss
    Finesse 05' v. Madness 11U Soliz = 8-4 win

    Finesse 05' v. USSSA Inter-Lakes Pride 12U Kramer = 6-3 loss (championship contest)
    Player Spotlight:

    The Finesse 05' - Henegar squad competed in the first annual Tomahawk Pumpkin Smash in Wauseon, Ohio. This was a USA (aka ASA) event. As typical of a first year tournament the draw was minimal but spread the word, the facility in Wauseon, Dorothy Biddle Park, is top notch! The girls earned the championship as they went undefeated during the one day tournament. Here are the results:
    Finesse 05' v. Lady Irish 05' = 4-1 win
    Finesse 05' v. SGS Magic = 11-0 win
    Finesse 05' v. SGS Magic = 10-3 win (semi-final contest)
    Finesse 05' v. Lady Irish 05' = 9-0 win (championship contest)
    Player Spotlight:

    The Finesse 05' - Henegar trip to N. Ridgeville did not go as well as planned. Overall record from the weekend 1-3, Sunday (bracket play) shaped up nicely and the coaching staff was excited for the possible noise we could make but the girls forget to bring their bats along and it was a one and done Sunday. : ( This past weekend brought our fall outdoor season to a close with an overall record of 10-7. No question, this past weekend has provided the team with plenty to drill during the indoor season so we are ready to hit the ground running in the spring. Here are the results from this past weekend:
    Finesse 05' v. Explosive Black = 4-1 win
    Finesse 05' v. Stingrays 05' = 5-0 loss
    Finesse 05' v. Gold Fastpitch 05' = 5-3 loss
    Finesse 05' v. Finesse 06' = 6-1 loss
    Player Spotlight:
    Offense = we were not offensive this weekend
    Defense = #18 (Macy) (catching) 20.2 Innings caught, 0 SB-ATT, 26 TC, 2 Assists, 24 Putouts, 1.000 FPCT
    Pitching = # 42 (Maison) 6 IP, 1 GS, 0 ER, 9 K, .000 ERA, 1st Pitch Strike % .625, 0 BB

    *Next event, Finesse 05' will travel to Tiffin, Ohio for friendlies on 1-7-18, let the indoor grind begin!!

    With a brief break due to holidays and winter weather, the Finesse 05' team returned to winter training this past Sunday, 1-14-18. The girls returned with great energy as the coaching staff continue to build upon their fundamentals both offensively and defensively. We have added speed and agility training to our practice plan. The S&A is being administered by a professional physical trainer who happens to be a mother of one of our players! #luckyFinesse05 We return to the process this Sunday @ 1230pm at the wonderful facility of Total Sports - Rossford. Lastly, still in need of one more softball player to get our roster back to 11 strong. Let me know at chamberlin2669@gmail.com

    We knock the rust off this week as we participate in the Lady Irish Valentines 50 Tournament in Rossford, Ohio. GG 3 games, 2 pool play and then teams enter into a single elimination tournament. I can't forget to mention, some lucky gal could be joining us this weekend as we are still looking to add an 11th member to our roster. No better way to determine if it is a good fit for both team and family by guest playing. Let me know at chamberlin2669@gmail.com

    There was some rust but boy was it fun to see the girls back in action after about a 4 month lay-off from in game action. I would say our first visit to the dome used by the Lady Irish was a good experience. Like any dome in the middle of the winter it was cold and the view for the spectators was not the greatest (along the outfield fence). But all in all the venue provided 2 full size softball diamonds with fencing set at 200ft. Here are the results:
    Finesse 05' v. Wizards 12U - Shinaver = 10-2 win
    Finesse 05' v. Madness 12U - Badillo = 15-2 win
    Finesse 05' v. Lady Irish 12U Blue = 12-4 win
    Finesse 05' v. Finesse 06' = 5-2 loss
    Player spotlights.....
    Offense = #18 (Macy), 10PAs, 8 AB, 6 H (2 HRs), 10 RBI, 6 RS, .750 BA, 1.500 SLG
    Defense = #24 (Hayley), 9 TC, 6 A, 2 PO, .889 FPCT
    Pitching = #42 (Maison), 6 IP, 2 GS, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO, 2.33 ERA, .679 S%
    ***BY THE WAY WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THAT 11TH MEMBER OF OUR ROSTER, HEARING ALOT OF INTEREST AND A COUPLE TRYOUTS ON THE HORIZON

    The Finesse '05 - Henegar squad made the trip south to Marion, Ohio this past weekend and participated in the USSSA Angels-4-Autism Tournament. Before I go any further, although we did not agree with all the calls made by the umpires, the coaching staff felt the umpires assigned to all 6 of our games were top notch. Each and every one of them hustled into position, were clear and concise in their decision making, and without question were there for the kids. Many thanks to the tournament director for assigning such excellent crews. It is still exciting to see the hard work put in over the winter pay dividends in the spring and summer. At the end of the Tournament the Finesse '05 squad earned the championship, here are the results:
    Finesse '05 v. Central Ohio Ice '05 = 7-6 win
    Finesse '05 v. Ohio Force '06 = 12-4 win
    Finesse '05 v. Lasers Teal = 7-6 loss
    Finesse '05 v. Mid Ohio Bullets = 15-0 win
    Finesse '05 v. Central Ohio Ice '05 = 4-3 win
    Finesse '05 v. Lasers Teal = 10-2 win (championship)
    Player spotlights......
    Offense = #18 (Macy) 20 PA, 16 AB, 11 H (3 triples, 1 HR), 10 RBI, 13 R, .688 BA, .750 OBP, 1.250 SLG
    Defense = #50 (Delaney) (time spent b/t C and RF) 15 TC, 6 A, 9 PO, 1.000 FPCT
    Pitching = #42 (Maison) 10 IP, 3 GP, 2 GS, 1 ER, 4 SO, .688 S%, .700 ERA

    The girls participated in the 4th Annual Young Gun Invitational at Homecoming Park in Holland, Ohio over the weekend. Tournament Director Jeremy Henegar (also our Head Coach) ran a good event even with the rough start due to mother nature. The contests on Saturday were friendlies (aka scrimmages), so you just never know the approach of each head coach to these types of contests. We matched up against Finesse '05 - Rosiewicz, Interlakes Pride, Ann Arbor Gold, and Diamond Chix '05. The girls played really well over the course of 4 games surrendering 6 runs and scoring 27. Pitching was pounding the zone and defense seemed well connected. Great warm up for what will be some stiff competition this coming weekend at the USSSA/Finesse Spring Fling in Commerce, MI.

    The Finesse '05 - Henegar team made the trip to Commerce, MI this past weekend and participated in the 14th Annual Finesse/USSSA Spring Fling. Not only was it great to see the girls playing softball but it was also extremely nice not needing multiple layers of clothing and hand warmers just to survive. : ) The weather was nearly perfect for softball. This my first visit to Maple Glen Park and I would not hesitate in making a return trip. If there was a change that I would recommend, I would suggest making use more of the diamonds with the 200ft. fences rather than the diamonds meant more for baseball. Our semi-final and championship games were played on 250ft. fields while diamonds with 200ft. fences set empty. The girls played some great softball this weekend, earned a 5-1 record and were crowned champions of the 2018 Finesse/USSSA Spring Fling Tournament. Here are the details...
    Finesse '05 v. Interlakes Pride = 9-3 win
    Finesse '05 v. Michigan Outlaws 12U Fadie = 7-3 win
    Finesse '05 v. Finesse 12U Moore = 9-4 loss
    Finesse '05 v. Interlakes Pride = 13-3 win
    Finesse '05 v. St. Claire Steelers = 9-1 win
    Finesse '05 v. Finesse 12U Moore = 10-6 win (championship)
    Player Spotlights.....
    Offense = #18 (Macy) 18 PA, 14 AB, 8 H, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR (in the park but she rattled the 250' fence both times), 12 RBI, 10 R, .571 AVG, 1.214 SLG
    Defense = #24 (Hayley) (spent time b/t SS and P) 15 TC, 10 A, 5 PO, 1.000 FPCT
    Pitching = #11 (Madison) 9 IP, 2 GS, 2 W, 2 K, .670 S%, .909 WEAK%, 3.11 ERA

    The Finesse '05 - Henegar team made a trip to the north and visited Battle Creek, MI and participated in the USSSA Ultimate Fan Experience w/Sierra Romero. Saturday was a wash out thanks to mother nature. Kudos to USSSA for the patience and the grounds crew for the expertise and hard work, the girls were able to play on Sunday. Sunday was a double elimination tournament with a winner take all championship game (no 'what if game'). The girls continue to demonstrate strong defense and timely hitting. When the dust settled the Finesse '05 - Henegar team won the championship and were awarded some serious bling bling!! Here are the details.....
    Finesse '05 v. Kalamazoo Kings Black 12U = 12-0 win
    Finesse '05 v. Caledonia Caos 12U = 15-2 win
    Finesse '05 v. Caledonia Caos 12U = 10-2 win (championship)
