Also, I really think the players should be watching the games as well when they are not playing. I definitely think they need their downtime in between games, but I also think that part of their time should just be watching teams play or the next team they are playing.
Amen!

Our pitcher KK does just that - she will go sit and watch other games while the rest of team goes to sit and eat, etc. She is a dirt rat.

In the 2nd inning of our game Sunday as she took the mound and I handed her the ball - she said, 'Coach, the ump's called it 2-3 inches off the plate last inning' - I said, 'So what are we going to do?" - her answer, 'Throw it 3-4" and down and see if he calls that a strike"

Gotta love it!

Interesting. I don't think my DD was getting those same calls in that game. ;)

Kavin,

I can only tell you about the TN White Lightning, they have always been a tough team down there. They have some solid pitchers and the taller girl has some speed. We did find that there isn't a single TN team we played that figured out not to leave 3rd base open on bunt situation with a runner on 1st. SS goes to cover 2nd base and 3rd base always charged and no matter if she fielded the ball or not she never came back to the bag. Also I hope you don't get stuck on the short field in the back, 130' to RF, 170' CF and LF. Nice to have the girls hit one or 2 out, but is not good for balls to the gaps, it turns doubles or triples into singles.

99 Gold looking for their first loss still. Does that qualify.. JK.. It's just fun to be able to say that. ^_^,. We still NEED some physical maturing before we can take on the big dogs at 12u. (I THINK....^_^). After watching Doom97, Static97 and Doug's 11u team this weekend, it's pretty clear that Great 12u play is a long seperation from Great 10u play.

It was fun to be able to watch what all those great 12u teams were doing, especially the Doom97 that played up at 14u and hung tuff all weekend.

Thanks Eric!! Greg gave me the same low down. It is amazing at 12U that you can still get away w/ a 1st to 3rd scenario on a bunt but a lot of teams either don't care about defending it or don't know how. This is one scenario we work on every week to insure we don't get caught napping. We got to play on that short field last year in Pigeon Forge & as you mentioned gap shots become single & some singles become HR's over the fence :)

BTW, you guys looked really good this weekend at Beavercreek - nice job!! Looking forward to the competition w/ you. I think the first time our schedules overlap is Laser Gold tourney & then Heatn It Up. Maybe we can get a scrimmage on a weekday somtime as we don't have a weekend off the rest of the year.

BTW, I forgot to mention how impressed I was w/ the Magic out of Toledo. A totally different team than we played last year. Very athletic & big w/ very good bats & speed along w/ two nice pitchers. They were well coached & played hard. That game we had w/ them in the semis was one of those games you remember for awhile especially when it goes to ITB. I just want to give props to that team as well.

Kavin,

Thanks for the kind words. I will see what we can do for something during the week since I know weekends get busy this time of year.

I looked over your list again and the Lady Cougars have a great SS. We managed to keep her off the bases the 2 times we played, but she was all over the field making some great plays against us.

Good luck and have fun down there.

Yes we are in Pigeon Forge this weekend. The pool of teams for this "friendly" is impressive. I know we are getting tested right out of the shoot in TN as our first pool play game is the Frost Falcons. Team Synergy is also there which is another excellent team. They have not told me who our second PP game is yet. Looking to get back on track this weekend after our de-railment in Sunday finals. Good luck to all & again, congratulations Doug / Hawks on your Beavercreek title.

See everyone in Dayton.

Good Luck STATIC...represent the buckeye state for us all...ksa;)

As you & Merlion mention, it really does come down to who the team your scouting is playing at the time. You can get really fooled on a team if you do not keep that in mind. For scouting, you really have to have knowledgeable personel to do it right. There are times during our games given situation, we will have one of our coaches go watch another team especially if our game times are overlapping. While the girls are getting their breaks between games, we are always watching other play to understand them better & learn things as well from them on how they defense certain situations. Knowing these little things allows me to know what they will do if I do "A" "B" or "C." There are a lot of coaches that will always do the same thing regardless of whose on base or hitting & when I play them I try to use this as an advantage for our team.

Also, I really think the players should be watching the games as well when they are not playing. I definitely think they need their downtime in between games, but I also think that part of their time should just be watching teams play or the next team they are playing. I can't wait until one of my girls comes to me voluntarily & tells me that player X can't hit the change or she a dead pull hitter etc. When that happens - it will be a glorious day :)

if this were a religion, id ask you to b the preacher on this one:D

NOTE: 10:30am Start time!!

Also, there is a 'Support the local soldiers' benefit at the park this weekend - they are charging for park entrance UNLESS you have the MLL logo in your car as shown above.. PLEASE have your parents print and place it in their car and enter on the 2nd entrance as shown above....

On Saturday - DO NOT ARRIVE at the park until 1 hour prior to your first game time - the Little League will be ending all their games at 1pm and they will need to clear out of the park and free up parking space for us!
