Marie,

Great weekend of softball! The fields were in amazing shape considering the rain. Did any results get turned in by the teams? It would be interesting to see because there were some great games that we were not able to watch.

Thanks to the teams that came to Goshen to experience the fields. After the rain on Thursday night and into Friday morning... we knew there was a challenge to get them to the standards set by the crew at Goshen. Especially with 48 degree temps on Friday night. We used a total of 4 bags of diamond dry in just one spot. I think that has something to say about the fields at Goshen. The fields were dragged every game.. pitcher's mound packed every game... foul lines if needed. After a couple rounds on Sat, the fields started looking like the field standards that the Goshen crew is noted for in the past.

They went well over any expectations that many coaches expressed to me over the weekend. The crew was great.. no doubt. Many coaches expressed their thoughts to me about being back next year and this morning I have secured more ballfields for the October, 2010 tournament so we can make it grow even bigger.

I'm glad the teams and fans had a great time and yes with the short daylight hours and early morning low temps.. any Fall event can be a challenge... But, I think we worked hard to make sure the teams were not waiting long to play again. That is what you want as coaches and after all the "special requests" made by teams for game times due to homecoming, etc... I think things turned out fine for everyone.

Looking forward to holding the Laser events ( all of them) in 2010.

I had an umpire who does a lot of college games make this statement.

" I saw ten (10) teams on Sunday.. and there is no doubt 8 of them could beat the University of Dayton college team ".

Now, that is a great testimony of the quality teams and the great coaches that came to this event.

Actually, another ump that was in Columbus on Saturday doing the college tournament there and came to Goshen on Sunday.... said the a couple of the ones he umped on Sunday.. would have been very competitive in the Columbus college tournament

Any chance of getting rid of the "throw down" bases?? I just don't understand why places use those things.

THE park are securing the funds for the bases. Actually, some of it is going to come from the rental fees for the fields I'm sure. With 6 major events coming next year to Goshen by major organizations.... I'm sure the money will be there to do such a thing by Spring.

The bases were staked down and not just thrown down...lol

Good: Teams, Competition, friendliness of concession and gate workers, Ky Teams ruling each age bracket, TD working with the requests of several teams who had scheduling conflicts, ground crews worked diligently throughout the weekend to shine those turds called ball fields, adequate parking.

Bad: Lack of temporary fences-hate ballparks that arent for fastpitch-shortest fence appeared to be 225 ft, throw down bases-spiked or not, lack of bleachers on most fields, entry fee-priced as if this was a Showcase and/or qualifier and it was neither, lack of standings/scoreboard, most fields had a lip at infield/outfield. Saw a minimum of three times it be an issue when a hit careened off lip by outfielders, once almost hitting a girl in the face-dangerous!,DROP DEAD RULE!!! Horrible. Finish an inning. No justifiable excuse for this rule, EVER. Outfields on many fields had dips, holes, and were lakes on certain fields.

Ugly: Morning weather, cold and wet. The restrooms were the absolute worst I have ever seen or heard about. Nothing like standing in a cess pool. Heard many of the girls were having problems in the womens. They were NASTY, UNSANITARY. The ballpark was pretty much a dump but I do understand it is all relevant. If that's what you are used to......

There were some very good teams there. Would have been nice to see them play each other on fastpitch fields as there were several balls that would have been gone but when playing on adult fields...........

Unfortunately Indiana Xtreme did not get to play them. Hopefully we'll see them down the line somewhere.

Having seen both teams play several times over the weekend: edge OC Outrage. Should be a good game though.

The only major problem I had with tournament experience was the restroom facilities. It was not a good. Other nice improvements would be temporary fences and getting rid of the throw down bases. Parking could also be an issue with a larger tournament field. Fields were well maintained. Umpiring wasn't bad. Competition was very good. Overall I would rate oour tournament experience an 8 on a scale of 10. Thanks to everyone involved.

Indiana Xtreme was 4-0-1 over the weekend with the tie coming from the Bluegrass Blaze and 3 pick up players. Watched the OC Outrage and they were a solid team but the Indiana Xtreme would have beat them!!!

The Xtreme's pitcher had nasty stuff and was the best we faced. They beat us 4-0 and we didn't have many scoring opportunities. Didn't play the Outrage, but saw one of their games. Both teams are very talented.

Is this the same OC Outrage team that played a lot of USSSA 14U in the Columbus, IN area last year?

They won the World Series tournament in Columbus in July and are a 15u team this year. I spoke to the coach and he said most of his players returned - I believe only 1 or 2 new girls this year. I didn't have the opportunity to see them or the Xtreme play but heard both were tough.

In the 18u the Louisville Lady Sluggers and Indy Dreams were dynamite teams. 1-9 could hit and hit hard. Impressive pitching as well.

Sounds like the young teams did well at the tournament!!!! The Xtreme are all 95's with two players being 94's.
