No time left...Rules for STALLING

I have run tournaments for the last 16 years. There have been lots of pros and cons for time limits. The main thing I see in favor of time limits is a predictable schedule, especially in pool play when games are played to ties. The main argument against is that is not the way the game was designed to be played.
My observation is that the majority of teams playing are not in it to win a state or national championship but rather for player development, opportunity for scholarship, help their school teams get better, etc--some weeks they do better than others, depending on the competitive level of teams they are playing against--it serves as a life lesson for players because they win some, lose some , and some get rained out. To the majority of these teams, time limits work well.
For the more competitive teams with deeper rosters, I clearly understand why they would want to play a 7 inning game. And I would think that run rules wouldn't even apply--team concessions would be allowed but I doubt if any coach would concede and much less, the players might not want to.

If you were going to do a high level tournament(and play to 7 innings) where pool play occurs first and then double elim , you'd better have a lot of time available because you would want to schedule at least 2 hours between games. That's easily managed in pool play, but once in double elim, 2 hours apart really stretches out the day for the winner brackets finals and then the winner has to sit out intil the losers bracket winner is determined---all the fields in the world do not help as you wind down the event.

EXXWHY from what I have been told, baseball tourneys are $700.00 to $900.00 per tournament. Thats twice as much as softball so you would not need the same amount of teams to make the same amount of money.

Plus most baseball tournys are 3 games only with the top team in each pool advancing to play in the semi- finals

I truely believe that the softball community will not support $700-$900 tournaments. The end goal is not the same for softball as it is for baseball.

Time limits and ITB will always be a part of college showcase tournaments. College coaches like to know within a reasonable time window when certain teams (players) will be playing, and without time limits, scheduling would be next to impossible. Now, if you don't have college scouts, change it up as you see fit.

I looked around a bit online, (Google "ohio baseball tournaments") and see most Ohio tournaments are $375 to $550 for baseball. Some are as little as $250. Parma is correct, most you have to win your pool to play elims. Some are top 2 in the pool, but either way less GG's overall which certainly makes it more expensive. I agree, if the number is $700-$900, that is not supportable.

Wonder if there is any interest in a softball tourney with longer game times (90 mins minimum) for a higher entry fee. Wonder how much more the entry needs to be to recoup the money. 15% more since you have room for 15% fewer teams??? More because you would lose some concession revenue? More yet for higher umpire fees? shrug....

I don't know the answers, but I dislike short time limts on games which often limit them to 4-5 innings.
