Road Runners beat Valley - White 4-3 [smiley=sad.gif] (Boardman)
BTW, the tourney was NSA, if that helps April 25-27

I usually stay out of these things as rankings, as far as being ranked, ?mean nothing to me or our team. ?I wish it did. ?But I don't want anything or anyone to get misrepresented on here. ?Plus, the rankings are for Ohio teams and we are based out of Pittsburgh. ?I like the rankings because it at least gives us some clue to what others think of the teams listed. ?And when we see them for the first time at least we have something to go on. ?Not that it means anything. ?Our team, the Furies 12u, has been fortunate enough to play good ball when it counts. ?So far that is. ?Username's dd plays for a very solid Pittsburgh Lady Roadrunners team and is a very good friend of mine. ? As far as I know, I'm the only person who posts on here that is affiliated directly with the Furies 12u.

To answer MD, Valley Extreme White and the Ohio Top guns were at Boardman though our girls did not play either. ?The girls have played the Top Guns thruout a winter league and it was back and forth with them. ?On any given day who knows who wins. ?Valley Extreme White looks like a very good team as well. ?As coop said, Ohio Ice, Lasers Gold, and the Ohio Roadrunners were at Tigertown. ?Our girls played the Ohio Ice twice, including the final, and squeeked out 2 close wins in games that could've gone either way. ?They, the Ice, had gotten past Lasers Gold in the semis. ?The Lasers Gold looks very, very solid and well coached also. ?Our girls also played the Ohio Roadrunners in the semis. ?Same there. ?Our girls came out on top of a game that could go either way. ? They have a girl who can really bring it. ? Rumor is 60 mph. ?Not sure about that, but she's close. ?All in all, ?I think any of these teams we've seen so far would be teams that would beat our girls, at least, on any given day. ?Including Usernames DD team who has beaten our girls a couple of times. ? ?Saw the Stingrays at Tigertown and they look every bit the 12u team that people think they are. ?They looked pretty good against the 14u to tell you the truth. ?Heck they had to play the Slammers twice out of 5 games. ?Thats rough. ? My dd used to play for the Pittsburgh Power in 10u and we had a very memorable semi game against the Stingrays at their tourney a few years ago. ?They beat our girls then in ITB and went on to play the Cincy Doom 95 who was pretty tough back then also. ?So I can imagine how tough the Doom is now almost 2 years later. ?

So, bottom line, 12u in Ohio is tough. ?Alot of very good teams. ?and there are so many more that we haven't even seen yet. ?Its May. ?Its early.

Keith...

Very well posted...as I agree with your post in it's entirety!!! Ranking's really don't mean much more then a pile of beans, but it is interesting to see who's traveling to compete against the top teams. It gives coaches a chance somewhat, to see where there teams stand against other teams, even if they only play common opponants. I have heard nothing but good things about the quality of Fastpitch that the Pitts Furies play. Thanks for your honest accessment of the above mentioned team's and good luck with the rest of your season. :)

Keep in mind some of these 14U teams will change when they get the Freshman from high school playing. Even some of the 13U playing as a 14u team have kids not playing because of Middle School. So a team you face now will have new faces in a few weeks. I wouldn't put much stock in 14U game results this time of the year.

Keith-- nice post. The problem I have as a "southern ohio gentleman" :D is at times I don't know exactly who is who. We don't see teams hardly ever from northern ohio. Then people post results saying roadrunners won here or lost ther and and at least speaking for myself I don't know if it's the ohio bunch or the pa. bunch. And until know , when it clicked , I just realized the furies were not some very good ohio team but a pa team. So it can be confusing, I'm glad you and username hang out on here. I like to keep track of how things are going in pa and seeing how each other's team stack up.

And by all means YES , the poll is for fun. (something to pass the time at work maybe) Our bunch can be top ten one day, lose to just anyone the next. I do enjoy it, seeing who to look out for, seeing what others might think of your team. again thanks for clearing up some stuff MD

P.S. I do disagree with only 1 item in your post. I don't believe that Any girl, on Any team in Ohio at 12U, is throwing near 60mph...lol. :)

of course they are!!! Why such the obsession with speed. Seen and played many pitchers with great movement that won games. Just venting.

Bink 44: You know the girl . She pitched for the 10U Sting rays years ago. ?I have never clocked her but I have caught her. ?All I say is she is ?the fastest 12U pitcher out there. ?I have clocked my dd and she is faster then her. When she starts throwing movement ?pitches watch out.

I sent you a PM, on this subject.

md, thats the truth. ?In tigertown, our girls were asleep during pool play in the afternoon and barely got thru that unscathed. ?Buth then in the middle of the wee hours of the morning they were alert and ready to go. Go figure. ?I guess thats part of being 12u.

flashes, I agree. ?Speed helps, but movement is more important. ?The Ohio Roadrunner girl definitely threw hard though. ?And no offense to her at all, as she is a very good pitcher, but 60 might be pushing it a little. ?Her changeup was pretty nasty though also.

bink, thanks. ?And good luck to you guys also. ?By the end of the season, I'd bet alot of things will have changed. ?Some teams gel later than others. ?Its fun. ? The rankings are fun. ?And as we see a few more of the Ohio teams maybe I'll ask if I can submit my pool of the Ohio teams just for the fun of it. ?But not until around June or so. ? Let the teams all get going first in a few tourneys and things will shake out better. ?and I think you're right about the 60 mph. ?Like I said, she is quick, and she may be close, but 60? ?That would be hard to believe. ?But 2 different people mentioned it to me at to different times during the tourney. ?I just gave the old "wow. oh yeah" response. ?Guess its possible but probably unlikely like you said. Though after our first 3 batters went down on ks, including my own dd who can hit quicker better than slower, it did make me think about it. My dd gave that "oh boy" look to me down at 3rd base, after watching the first strike zip by her.

Username, not sure what your looking for? I mentioned both of your teams before in the 12u poll as teams that were very good. I was told at that time that the poll would be for Ohio teams and not Pa. teams, hence, that is why your team is not on the top ten list. It is obvious to those of us that play together more often, because of our location, that your two teams would be in the top ten if you were in Ohio. From what I see this year in the 12u division there are quite a few teams that can win on any given day. Both of your coaches are fine gentleman and respect all of the teams that they play, they would probably agree with me when I say, any team can have an off day! From the scores of some of the games that were played I'd say that this division will be tight all year long.

For some reason I was thinking the 60mph statement was for a girl that I didn't know up close and for a different team. I do know Miss Taylor...she is an even better young lady then a pitcher, and she is a very good pitcher!!! If there is a 12U pitcher in Ohio who is fast approaching the 60mph mark it will be Taylor!!! I think she is real comparable speedwise to 1 of 2 Indy Diamond Chix pitchers who was clocked at the OSU winter clinic at 57/58/57 mph on her 3 pitches. The Indy girl was the fastest by 2/3mph of all 12U pitchers in attendence at the clinic.

Anyway, good luck to everyone this summer and keep up the lively debates/predictions in 2008!!! :)

Gunners , not really " looking " for anything , just getting some chatter going abit . I guess this last tournie getting rained out made me look elsewhere for some softball fix . lol . In the Pa. forum , posts and subjects like this one quickly get deleted by the mod. Like I said ...good luck to all the teams .

Bink is right on with "T", she is a great kid. He is also correct that she throws more consistantly around 57/58 mph. I have seen her throw more than anyone besides Dad and her pitching coach for the last three years. The Furies didn't see her best at 3:30 in the morning (no excuses, I just have seen her pitch better). She definately throws 56/57/58 most times, but every once in a while during a game a fastball comes out of her hand that is night and day from 57 mph. Can't explain it. You just know it is moving faster. The problem with "T" is she could also be one of the best position players in the state. She throws over hand just as fast as her under hand pitching. Any how, bottom line, she is a great kid and I am glad my DD is friends with her.

On to the state rankings. Although it is entertaining, it doesn't mean anything, KM is right there are a lot of 12U teams that will either win or lose to any given team. One mistake against these teams and your team loses. I am glad that we get to play the PA teams. We will see the Pitt teams this summer. Great competition.

Lets work together to put a centrally located tournament together for at the end of this season or next year. Wouldn't it be fun to see the top 20 teams play a 4 day tournament. Pool play into a double elimination bracket. Yes DOUBLE ELIMINATION. I prefer double elimination because one bad game costs you too much. Just like KM said in his post any of these teams could win. That's why in baseball you play a series.

good post mil-rose. end of the year tourney would be cool --I'd guess all of us are playing either nsa or asa states. And most will play NSA natl's since it's in columbus. I had a dad telling me his girl was throwing 57-59 last week. I'll be gone this weekend and won't get to see her throw. She threw above 50 last year as an 11. On a team no one has heard of. MD

you're right mill-rose. ?I was mentioning it to one of our coaches before we all even started the elim round at tigertown that the results can wind up being skewed because who knows what any team is going to get out of its players in the middle of the night. ?Some teams may just respond better to that situation than other teams who may normally be a little more talented under normal circumstances. ?Plus in our case, we had finished our last pool game at 5 pm, even though it had been 3 games back to back to back. ?The girls went back to the hotel and chilled out until 11 pm. ?So I'd have to say our girls probably didn't see T's best at 3:30 am. ?But even so, she was still bringing it regardless. ?And about throwing one every once in awhile that seems faster, I felt exactly the same on one of her warmup pitches at the start of an inning. ?I was already down at 3rd trying to gauge her myself and she let one go that just got there so quick. ?I'm thinking, jesus, I hope this kid isn't one of those that need an inning or so to get going. ? We'd be in trouble. ?She is definitely a great pitcher. ?I think a few of our girls who used to play for Pittsburgh Power at 10u might have faced her 2 years ago in the Stingray tourney if she played 10u back then. ?They didn't hit her then. ?I remember that aside from Coop, there was another one who was wicked.

We like to come to Ohio because the girls get to see new teams, and they like the road trips. ?From a coaches standpoint, there are alot more teams in Ohio than in Western PA, so there winds up being more tough teams from Ohio. ?Thats not to say Western PA does not have some tough teams. ?Just that Western PA does not have as many teams to begin with. ?There are many good teams from Western PA including the Lady Roadrunners. ?But Ohio just offers more. ?I hate when our girls play the same teams over and over and over. ?I love it when they play teams none of us has seen at all , or at least in a while.

I agree with having a tourney at the end of the year. ?That would be great. ?And I'm all for double elim. ?You get more accurate results from a double elim. ?If a team loses twice they definitely don't deserve to be champions or think they should be champions on that given weekend. ?Its one the reasons we hit Zanesville every year. ?Our girls lost twice last year there and there are no excuses at that point. ?We were not the best team, period. ?Wish more tourneys were double elim. ?

Keith, by the way your pitcher was equally as tough. We were impressed with the way she pitched at 3:30 in the morning. Tuff girl. Your shortstop and catchers have the best arms I have seen at those postions. Your SS after bobbling the ball threw on of our batters out with feet to spare. Wow.

I was thinking about that year end tournament. Problem is tryouts. Teams that are going to nationals getting back running tryouts would make it difficult to pull it off. To run a true double elimination tourney withouit killing the girls. It would take a least four days. The two weekends that come to mind is Labor Day or Memorial Day. Most parents would only have to burn one vacation day to play on friday. Having that holiday on Monday should work for most people. I would prefer it be like what the Indy Diamond Chix are doing this summer. The Elite 8. No trophies, extra activities for the girls outside of the games. Its is about the competition. Preparing the teams for Nationals. Softball will get stronger with more of these type of weekend events. What a concept, providing our girls with the highest level of competition and to let them have some fun. I once played in a tournament in 1976, where the host team had a hog roast / carnival for all of the teams. I was 12 years old. We played great baseball with stiff competition and had fun in the same weekend.

Keith look forward to seeing you guys in Zanesville and Wheeling.
