WICHITA, Kan. – Friends University softball head coach Suzanne Unruh has announced the hiring of a new graduate assistant coach, and the name will ring familiar with Falcon fans. Renee Downey, a four-year player for the program, will assume the responsibilities of the position starting with the upcoming season.

"We're thrilled to not have to say goodbye to Renee just yet!" Unruh said. "Her four years of hard work and dedication to the softball program at Friends University will be a great addition to our coaching staff!

"Renee knows how important our winning tradition and future success for our program was as a player here and will continue to do so on the coaching side of things when working with the Lady Falcons"

A solid four-year player, Downey was third on the team in hitting (.310) this past season.

In 2018, Downey won a KCAC Gold Glove after recording a solid .958 fielding percentage at second base.

A terrific student-athlete, Downey is a two-time KCAC Scholar Athlete recipient.

Downey has finished her degree in Physical Education at Friends University and will be pursuing a Master's of Education degree.
