My undrstaning is that if you are saying he is a candidate and
has not been approved by the local school board then he can coach the winter and he is still elligible to apply for the assisstents job.

Eatsleep, the politically correct answer would be a knowledge of the game, rules, and coaching experience. But in alot of cases all you need is a teachers union card.

Danger1 is right as far as the person is eligible even thought he coached the winter team. He wasn't an official coach at that point, so there is no problem.

As far as requirements, literally the only requirements to coach are taking the 4-hour PAV (first-aid) class, CPR and a background check. Whether a school looks for the best coach it can find for the kids or keeps its search within the building varies from school to school.

As long as they have not been approved by the school board, YES, they are eligible to coach at the HS level. ?Once they have been approved, they would have to stop doing any form of coaching or instruction.
The other thing people may not be aware of, is that when you sign a contract, even though it is a supplemental 1 year contract, you are still considered a part of the coaching staff after the season is over.
Lets say you will only be coaching/assistant for 1 year, OHSAA still recognizes you as a coach until the following year, which when working with the summer program, or giving instruction/lessons with students from your HS, you will still be under the OHSAA guidelines of a HS coach until the following season.

Even if your school uses unpaid Asst coaches, they still have to be board approved, and go thru what JoeA stated. Hitter 23, on head coaches you are correct. I guess we are lucky in that our Asst coaches all come out of travel ball.

The rules apply to any coach including all the assistants not just the head coach.

There are no rules in place. This is your daughter/child/athlete, and OHSAA has no say as to what, where, and when you coach your child.

you would think that they have no right to tell you what to do with your dd but it says no contact. there is no rule saying except a dd.

The rule is very clear. I don't see how anyone can be confused by the existing rules.

Your dd is your dd, and not subjected to the rules.

f you have not been hired as a coach prior to the upcoming season, your services prior to the contract are a non-issue.
