Pitcher reentery

A quick question on rules. Can a pitcher, F1 start the game, be subbed out by S1 and then reenter the game to pitch? An umpire said last night that she could reenter the game but not as a pitcher after pitching to start the game. Can she pitch the first two innings, leave and then return to pitch the last two innings for example? As I read the rules she can as long as the substitution or charged conference rules are followed.

Yes, she can in high school ... as long as the rules you mentioned are followed.

Yes, .....and to add to that, she can start pitching and then put her elsewhere in the field later in the game, and then return her later to pitch. You can switch her every inning if you would like, provide she never left the game, but only once per inning.

Thanks. I didn't want to argue the point too much with blue but I thought I was right. This was a 7th grade game so it didn't affect standings and such. And it was an OHSAA sanctioned game.

I always thought if a pitcher comes out of the game she cannot go back in and pitch, I'm talking ASA rules. in fact if she was replaced by a sub she cannot even go back in,because she has to stay in the same batting order which the sub. pitcher has now. she could go back in and pitch again if she had been subed for by the EH, each could pitch every other inning

Every starter and sub is allowed one re-entry. If you were to take your pitcher out of the game in the third inning and replace her with Sub #1, you could re-enter the starting pitcher in the 6th inning for Sub #1, and she will be in the same spot in the batting order.
In the 3rd inning you move the pitcher to SS, and bring your SS in to pitch. You can bring the starting pitcher back in during the 4th inning, and move your SS back. You can do this every inning if you would like.

Yes and no... if it's just a sub, she can... but if the coach took his maximum number of trips to the mound, then no, she cannot go back in to pitch.

I'm sorry, but yes you can. ?I can go out and switch pitchers as often as I like, and the 2 defensive timeouts are never affected. ?I can switch pitchers as many times as I want in an inning, and as many times as I want during the game. ?You just can't re-enter the same pitcher in the same inning, but you can the next inning. As long as I make a pitching change, I can go to the mound as many times as I like during an inning.

What LK is talking about we have done for a few years. We had two good pitchers and we would switch them every inning. He is correct , after the second visit you have to make a change, but next inning she can pitch again. We even did this in an ASA tournament in NJ last year. It works, if you have two good pitchers. .

Maybe we are talking differences in sanctioning bodies.
In ASA, Rule 5, Section 7, paragraph 2, p[age 50-51 in the 2008 rulebook, says:
Defensive Conference. There shall be only three charged onferences between the manager or other team representative from the dugout with any defensive players in a seven inning game.
Effect: The fourth, and each additioinal, charged conference in a seven inning game, or for any charged conference in excess of one per inning in an extra inning game, shall result in the removal of the pitcher form the pitching position for the remainder of the game. The removed pitcher can play another position on defense but cannot pitch again.

From USSSA, (May 7, 2008 edition), page 21

Sec 5. SUBSTITUTE - A player who replaces a player that is in the game (offense or defense).
Teams are required to immediately report all substitutions to the Plate Umpire. Upon
notification by either team, the Umpire shall announce the legal substitute and make the
appropriate lineup card changes. An unreported legal substitute brought to the Umpire?s
attention will result in a penalty, all prior play shall stand.
PENALTY: For unreported substitution,
First offense: A team warning is issued.

Second offense: The head coach is ejected for the remainder of the game only.
A substitute or player who replaces a pitcher while the team is on defense shall pitch to
the first opponent to bat against the substitute until that batter has advanced to first base,
or has been put out or until there has been a third out. To ensure that the requirements
are fulfilled, the Umpire will deny any coach-defensive player conference that will violate
it.
A. If the starting pitcher is replaced before the first opposing batter has been put out or
advanced to first base, the pitcher may play or re-enter at another position, but shall
not return to pitch.
B. A player may be removed as a pitcher and returned as a pitcher only once per inning.
Provided the return as a pitcher does not violate either the pitching, substitution, or
charged conference rule. If the pitcher, because of injury or being incapacitated, is
replaced as pitcher and the above rule is not satisfied; or if the pitcher?s substitute
requires more warm-up throws than permitted, the pitcher shall not return to the
game as a pitcher.

You dont have to have a conference to change pitchers. Simply tell blue pitching change thats not a conference. Just like a ph your not charged a conference to put her in you just report it to blue. You can actually bring the same pitcher back in the same inning but if she comes back in the inning she has already pitched in she is not allowed any warm up pitches. This is for ASA

ASA RULE 6 PITCHING REGULATIONS (FAST PITCH) SECTION 9 WARM-UP PITCHES
Covers this. The last 2 sentences read:

A pitcher returning to pitch in the same half inning will not receive warm-up pitches. There is no limitation as to the number of times a player can return to the pitching position as long as the player is legally in the game.

Fast2Home, If you look just below the rule you put up there, section C reads:

The following are not defensive conferences:
1. If the team representative enters the playing field and informs the umpire prior to verbal comments with any defensive player that the pitcher will be removed

Yes, that is correct and I was aware of that.
The key is if it is a "charged conference".

Your first post made me believe that you were saying every time you changed pitchers it was a charged conference. If that was the case you could only change 3 times. I was just trying to clear it up for the ones who didnt know the rule. ;)
